Yep. If I had to pick a top one favorite movie it would probably be Alien. I was looking forward to Prometheus since last year, the trailer for it was superb and promised a terrific movie. Saw it when it came out, and it was massively disappointing.

Annoying characters behaving unbelievably stupidly and a feeling that a lot of stuff had been cut from it. The most memorable scene is actually ridiculous (she's running about as if nothing has happened straight after, and nobody else bats an eyelid).

It's written by the guy behind Lost, so I guess it never had a chance of being good.

I like Alien3 but can only stand the director's cut. That movie is a great example of studio and director fighting and the movie suffering. The version on HBOGo is the theatrical version. If you haven't seen the director's cut...seek it out.

You mean the assembly cut aka the extended/alternate cut released with the Alien quadrilogy box set? If so I completely agree with you, even though it wasn't done by Fincher, the director.

I'm a big fan of ALIENS, but Alien 3, 4, whatever, all sucked. ALIEN was a classic in its time but if you watch it today you'll see that it too really sucks. Don't get me wrong - I love classic sci-fi like Forbidden Planet. It's brilliant and spooky and holds up today. ALIEN somehow, is a dud now, especially the stupid directors cut.

Prometheus is good and bad at the same time. It looks Fan-fucking-tastic. All kinds of money was spent on the look. It has several good scares and one really tense scene. Unfortunately though the movie is full of really stupid technical errors (The Astronauts take their helmets off! - Come on!!!) that really sunk the movie for me as a sci-fi fan.

It also sucks that if you saw the trailer, you know how the movie ends!

I liked the beginning of the movie. The alien standing by all that water. Something about the look of the scene, the color, the detail maybe, made me wonder where they shot it and made me want to visit that place.

Otherwise, meh.
