I love that Stewart used the quote, "They can't privatize the profits...and socialize the losses."

Was pretty good, but why do I get the feeling that Bill O was talking about himself in this clip?

I've always felt he seems more intelligent & more sensible than the role he plays on Fox news.
In November, you can vote for America's next president or its first dictator.

He's made "Bill OReilly" into a character loosely based on the real Bill OReilly.

I remember when his show first came on. It was kinda boring. A middle aged non-descript guy talking about stuff.
Then one day he got pissed at a U.S. Senator who was on the show and called the guy out on a blatant lie. I couldn't believe it! It was great! I'd never seen anyone have the balls to do that.

That's when the ratings started to go up and up and up.

But it was impossible to LEGITIMATELY do that every night.

So now...OReilly is just a character he has created who is outraged at EVERYTHING. I can't stand to watch the show anymore. It's just ridiculous now.

He's "outraged" at every little thing. He runs over every guest. Screaming and carrying on over nothing.
And I don't think he believes one bit of it. It's all about ratings.

He almost alludes to that near the end of this video. The fake "hate" actors in media.

Yea, I don't think he's really a frobbing of the mouth blow hard, as he makes himself out to be on his show. I think he just plays that up for his base & ratings because that's what his viewers want to see. I'm sure in real life he would likely be fairly interesting to talk to.

It would be like Jerry Springer not playing up "who's the daddy", and having sleaze bag trailer trash flashing their tits.

I just get the feeling that Bil O realizes that he's sort of created a monster with his success and it's only going to get worse as the next up & comers try to out do him.

Glen Beck is another fake. He just doesn't want to give up the millions he makes a year telling people what they want to hear.

                    I wouldn't call it "fake".

I'd call it "entertainment". Just like every preacher in every church. Just like every politician. Just like Chris Matthews on MSNBC (he used to actually do a great show...now he's just insane on there).

They are all entertaining people. No different than it's been for centuries. They just do it on television now.

Exactly - and I thought that was the most insightful and interesting thing O'Reilly said the whole evening. About how the haters in a capitalistic society make good coin off of being haters...even when they don't really feel that way personally. It's a role they play.

Yeah, I guess a lot of folks actually believe it's all "real". (hell, a lot of them are apparently right here on GFY lol)

And a lot of people believe that "Reality Television" is unscripted, or the "fights" on Jerry Springer aren't planned out in advance, etc.

Bottom line is...it's all entertainment and all about making money.
