The article doesn't say which companies though, unless I missed it.

If I had to guess I'd say it was the smaller ones who would have to pay more in legal fees than royalties. I can't see companies like holio or igallery paying them without a fight.

i still dont understand how they can sue us for using something that microsoft created.... all my movies are WMV and play in Windows Media Player... shouldnt they be suing microsoft? or Real, or Apple? they provide the streaming technology, i just use it...

so confusing & stupid are they. *yoda*

from what i understand the license is a yearly royalty based on a % of gross revenue derived from the streaming video. I have no idea how Acacia and the licensee come to an agreement on the amount. But on gross revenues, even a small %, could be alot of money.

i can understand how a small company would just cave in and pay them something. Small company can't afford to defend itself against that kind of legal muscle. So pay the license and cross your fingers that somebody else with deeper pockets wins in court.

they'll be going after Microsoft and Real too......... adult companies are the test case for Acacia.

Virgin Interactive already caved in and paid them the licensing fee.
The article which was posted on Oprano said that Virgin's lawyers said Acacia's case has merit, more than they have seen in similar patent shakedown cases, so they decided to pay rather than spend 10's and 10's of thousands fighting it.

that's just bullshit. Digital video streaming/delivery existed way before 1991 period. Prior art. I don't see why all these companies are giving in

There's a great article in AVN magazine about it. This company is basically building up a warchest to use lawyers to break companies down. They are testing and starting with companies with limited resources.

They are living proof that there is true scum on this earth. It's very dirty IMHO.

ITS THE LAWYERS!

Its always the greed fucking scum sucking lawyers. I was pre-law and all people talked about was how much money they would make one day suing people.

People succumb because the alternative is more expensive. Its the lesser of two cost factors. Either way you are fucked.

The best thing you can do is keep your assets tucked in distant places, tell them to GFY, let them sue you, take the default, they won't collect, they'll sell the paper for .10 cents on the dollar, judgment collections call, tell them to GFY too, and live happily ever after....

the press release reads like a big hype job to boost the stock; like what a penny stock shell company would do - look at us we are suckering in companies through threats...buy our stock cause we are going to sue them all.
