I used to think this until I got a second monitor and my productivity went up. I have what I am working on in the left monitor and the right often has reference material or FTP as I am uploading or previews of what I am working on etc in it. Instead of having to flip back and forth between different windows I have it all right there. Also, I'm a big sports fan so I got a TV card for my computer and will often have a game going on in a small window on the second monitor. I can still focus on my work and catch the game at the same time.
