There is a class people who you can call "would signup if they were sufficiently motivated", those ones are worth catering for.

One way to be motivated is to get interested in, or feel some association with, a site or more likely a particular model. And that takes time, more than two minutes for sure, for some people it might take months.

These are strategies not to be discussed, but to be tested with real traffic. And I presume that is being done.

There is simply no way you will feel an association with a model if you are a freeloading guest, because the model will quite rightly not even give you the time of day.

I don't really agree with this. Quite a few models on MFC and CB do give 'freeloaders' the time of day because they understand that all of their tippers started out as 'freeloaders'.

These are usually the models who make good money though.

Maybe tipping sites are different; I was thinking more of the traditional kind. I still think some kind of reminder or incentive to sign up is good though. Popups and timeouts are annoying but I think they work, for people who would sign up anyway.

From affiliates POV, it's better to have such people 'motivated' to sign up ASAP, rather than 6 months down the line of forming a relationship with a model.

Agreed - I wish every single free user turned into a paid within minutes, however the reality is, it ain't gonna happen. :(

Especially for free and tipping sites:
Yes every pay user it started as freeloader the first day, but most of the models do not understand it even if you tell them 100 times and write it in her chat page.
I run cam sites since many years and I can see people who keep freeloader for months before to start buy. What it matters the guys are lurking for free in YOUR cam site instead of else one, and then when someone will decide to pay anything, this will be in YOUR cam site instead of somewhere else.
MFC limits nothing so people lurk there and if finally anyone pay something it does in MFC. So Chaturbate does well to not limit anything and have no limits or nags on tubecamgirl.com too.

About the success of a cam site that's not just how you make the "please register to continue" alerts, it is a little more complicated :)

Not every big tip dropping guy it is alpha-male motivated. Some want to "help the girl" and willing to send money even anonymously, this includes western unions outside the site which is why livejasmin and streamate are full of admins monitoring every chat post and piece of paper shown in cam video, like if it is China or North Korea. The girl will then give all this cash to her local bf anyway, instead of for "study" or "buy medicine" as she claimed. This is more the private chat regular guys than tip based sites.

But in tip based sites there is alpha-male phenomenom for sure. For this reason in one of our sites (tubecamgirl.com) we reward the best tipper with a crown icon and top position in userlist, we even have the ranking based on total tips in userlist, and some time the guys fight in a "tip war" so to go upper in list, to "become king" or expensive games like that. We also noticed a "tip rain" at times, the user tips a lot of times $1's so to fill the screen with tips, this is definitely to get noticed :)

I agree; but I would say tipping cam site it is now mainstream and "regular", while private only ones are outdated... even streamate home page is full of those "gold shows" now, and every new launched cam site is an mfc clone somewhat.
This would mean cam sites are going to be virtual strip clubs mainly, where (not often) a customer can hire a stripper "after the work hours" for a "private" too.
