    Dictators in the Middle East were useful.

    Seriously, they kept a lid on things. "Liberating" these Animals is a huge mistake..

      I heard the same thing by a commentator on MSNBC last night. Basically saying that the dictators were asshats but useful ones in as much as they kept their populations under control and not attacking Embassies (Iran doesn't count)

                      As someone who values freedom, it pains me to say that a lot of the middle east needs to be ruled with an iron fist. It doesn't work otherwise. Generally speaking, many of them simply have not evolved enough yet to function properly as a society.

                                                          Not at all. I did forget to mention Turkey and the expansion of the Ottoman Empire. That was a massive clusterfuck. However, Europe's activities pre-crusade and post crusade are well-documented. In last century we have mostly American oil companies to thank. In Middle East and Asia.
