Jaguar Land Rover unveils new ?super-green? hybrid

Thanks to an integral electric motor which boosts an already frugal new 3.0 litre V6 turbo-charged diesel engine, the luxury 4X4 will do 45 miles to the gallon and give out CO2 emissions as low as a family saloon. But it will still sprint rapidly from rest to 60mph in under seven seconds.

A serious weight-loss diet helped by an all-aluminium body and chassis has enabled it to shed 420kg - the equivalent of five adult occupants ?boosting fuel economy and reducing pollution levels.

[LINK]

you can drive a 4x4 and be green(ish).

and cheap to drive.

i bet these will sell as i think people get put of by normall 4x4's with the cost of fuel. but these will be cheap to run.

£71,295 rising to around £100,000.

Not cheap.

But I guess if you do a lot of driving it may pay for itself due to what you save on fuel.

Also somthing like this will mean other car firms following.

these sell to the well off in the uk.

you often see women in them driving the kids to school. its a status thing, plus they feel safer in them.

cars such as the F150 do not sell well in the uk. you see a few pick ups such as nissans, but these tend to be gardeners.

this car will sell like crazy to uk well off women. they will be abel to boast how green it is. most will never go off road.

plus people like them as the uk roads are bad. i mean realy realy bad. they are probably worse than any ex ussr countries. i have today taken my car in to be fixed as the roads damage it.

the problem was jag, mini and others were built by British Leyland in the uk.

basicaly British Leyland was run like a ussr firm. they went on strike all the time as it was run by the unions.

so often even the good cars were built not well.

its probably why non uk cars were more popular.

what will be interesting is what other car firms do.

we are now seeing competition with electric cars. that will:

1. push the cost of them down.

2. increase electric power points.

in ten years we may see electric as the norm.

in the uk fuel is very expensive. in fact the cost is getting silly now. so electric is clearly a good alternative.

Mileage seems high 45, really? And acceleration time seems very fast. Let's wait for first real road test.

Mine averages 11.5mpg but I still burn way less fuel than most people. One of the benefits of working from home.

I didn't think people who made enough money for a Land Rover would give a shit about fuel economy.

I'm about to trade in my lease for a new vehicle, and wanted to get a hybrid, but Nissan doesn't have any good options yet. Actually, most companies don't have good options yet, and by that I mean the ability to have almost any type of SUV you want in a Prius style gas mileage.

This Rover looks like the start of that kind of choice, but I don't have 100k laying around. I think whatever makes this vehicle awesome will trickle down to other manufacturers eventually, and it won't be a big thing to have any car you want that gets 50 mpg. We're on the cusp.

Gas in on its way out, because it sure as fuck ain't getting any cheaper and most people are tired of putting 100 bucks in their tank every week.

£100,000 = $170,000

Buy a pimped out Toyota truck for $40k
For left over $130,000 you can buy 32,000 gallons of gas.

As difficult as it might be to believe, the:

Average U.S. vehicle mileage has declined since 1988, primarily reflecting an increased proportion of SUV's,
Average U.S. vehicle mileage is now roughly the same as for the mix of automobile, light and heavy Model T trucks produced 80 years ago, and
Average 2006 U.S. vehicle mileage is considerably less than the mix of automobiles and light Model A trucks that were manufactured in 1930.

Additionally, we have far more automobiles in the world than we did in 1930, and these vehicles are traveling many more miles that was common in 1930, resulting if far greater gasoline consumption and emission of greenhouse gases.

None-the-less, it appears that there is something fundamentally amiss with a society that manufactures, and purchases, vehicles that achieve a significantly lower mileage than the vehicles that were driven by our great-grandparents.
