Yet another "video card" thread. Radeon 9700 Pro.

My GeForce4 Ti4200 died today.

So I wanted to get a Geforce FX to replace it.. then I started looking at the reviews.. Yikes.

It was a risk. Switching to ATI. I was shaking and almost had a seizure just thinking about it..

I now own the ATI 9700 PRO.

All those raving reviews on the internet were right, it rocks. Solid drivers, the gameplay and framerate is amazing.. Battlefield 1942 has never been so much fun..

I can't believe I bought one.. Oh well, too bad the GeForce FX is so damn ugly and noisy. And the benchmarks are so damn close, I am happy I didn't wait and bought the ATI 9700.

Anyone know why NVidia approved this monster!? Looks like panic to me.

I agree 200%...after this thread, i decided to order one.

I was hesitant whether or not i would notice a difference (as i had the original GeForce), after it was installed, it was like comparing night and day

I did not realize how slow my card was until i tried the 9700

whatever the driver issues ATI has had in the past, it seems that the more recent builds of Radeon drivers are pretty solid. one thing you will always find is that ATI cards have *much* superior 2d image quality than nVidia boards, ATI's spec calls for very high-quality DAC's on the cards, and it makes a very visible difference on the desktop (and in Photoshop, etc.)...

for any who are thinking of picking up a 9700Pro, however, do yourself a favor and do some searching at some of the hardware sites (Arstechnica.com, etc.), there is a very simple hack to convert the much cheaper 9500 Radeon into a 9700 Pro, just involves a software hack and you save at least $150..!
