London people ! Get in !

Hey Guys ! I am about to buy the flight ticket to go to the Amsterdam show and I probably need to stop in London for about 12 hours.

Wich will be the typical tourists places I could visit in that short period of time?

    What would you recommend me?

Any advice will be much appreciated!

        Hey bud

12 hours isn't really that long when you bear in mind it may take you an hour to get your bags and get through customs, and then you'll need to be back there at least 1.5 hours before flight out.

So, let's say you have 9 hours spare. Are you flying from Heathrow or Gatwick?

If Gatwick, if you like I'll come and get you, and show you some of Sussex, the place I live, which is lovely and green and typically English. If Heathrow, then the centre is about an hour on the tube (do not get a cab, it will take longer and cost you around 200-250 bucks, tube will cost you 12 bucks).

Then, well, depends what you want...you could get a tourist bus thing and see all the big sites, you could go to a museum or two, you could get an amazing meal at one of the more famous places to eat, you could do some shopping, see a park or two...dunno what you like. The embankment is cool too, you'll get to see the London Eye, tate modern, national theatre (which is always cool cos the skateboarders and BMX folk all do their stuff around there).

        Lots of choices...

          Hey Damian!!!
          I will be at Heathrow
I was thinking on taking some pictures at the Big Ben ( where I can also see the famous bridge, right ? and then go to the Buckingham palace. Do you think I have time to do both or should I pick only one?

Dont forget to factor in the increase immigration times and the extra time fo security checks on the outbound leg. Should be about 45mins each way to london by the tube from heathrow, should have about 6 hours in town. http://journeyplanner.tfl.gov.uk for times.

I've not got a bus tour running this year ;) but a tourist bus trip would get you around pretty much all the main sights. Failing that start at tower bridge, then onto St Pauls for St Pauls Cathedral, then onto the tube again and westminster for pics of the house of parliament and big ben. That way you start out at the furthest part and work your way back.

Talk a walk around the palace area, Big Ben, etc., quick do the London eye then head over to the Soho area.

It takes you to paddington, which isn't really where you want to be. It's also expensive.

I'd just sit on the tube...

And I agree with all livexxx says.

I called the hotel and asked what the best way is to get from Heathrow to the hotel, their answer was by Tube and that it was only a 10 minute walk to hotel.

I hate to say this but after a 9 hours flight, with luggage, computer, and bad attitude the last thing I want to do if find the subway.

I would have thought that for 400 bucks per night they could have suggested this.

I have it booked, Not cheap but he 75 bucks wont gonna kill me either.

I find it VERY hard to believe you can get a cab from heathrow to the centre of london for 75 bucks.

                            Very hard.

Heck, it used to cost me that to get to Chiswick from Heathrow which is about half the way to central london. Maybe you've found the deal of the century. Maybe there will be hidden charges...

I have no idea but I use transfer services in many parts of the world and they are generally a lot cheaper than taxis.

                              Here are three of them.
                              49 Pounds

                              Another at 49 Pounds

                              And one for 35 Pounds

In case anyone is wondering the postal code of the hotel is WC1

                              Good luck

Yup, heathrow express is good too, still lots cheaper than a cab or taxi and you dont stand the risk of getting stuck on the chiswick flyover for an hour in a cab. A cab from heathrow to say Tower bridge is going to take about an hour traffic permitting. http://bit.ly/QA1E8P

You can talk an easy stroll from the house of parliament (great late night bar) along the embankment, see the london eye from across the thames, up past 10, downing st (our president lives there) onto trafalgar square, then down the mall to Buckingham Palace in just 30 mins. Longer if you stop off for some brass rubbing along the way (quaint english tradition of rubbing beeswax on a prostitute).
