My ex-brother in law worked in financial, and made a big deal about his job all of the time. He was non-stop bragging about the amounts of money going by his desk, and acted like he was doing God's work. He never asked me a single question about what I do, which is infinitely more interesting and I actually create a product. He just leeches onto money made by other people and shaves some off the top, and acts like it's some great achievement. It's fucking lazy and shows low character if you ask me.

rant over.

how is that even a little different than what you do exactly? You run a business and don't crunch numbers all day? how well could it be going if you don't do that?

people around here acting like they have invented the wheel.. You run a small business, if you can get by with what you earn it is successful--congratulations. It's not that different than what a lot of people are already doing so get over yourselves.

I have seen you say this several times before. I'm not sure why you think "paper pushers" don't do anything. Sure, many don't, but many ditch diggers don't either. :winkwink:

Crunching numbers is essential to any business. If you don't have a number cruncher, enjoy your ride, it probably won't last too long.

You guys need to have some stock answers ready for the idiot gallery.

What is it you do? -- I work from home in web development, online promotions, design, writing, etc. If they try to ask more about it I say it took years to learn to do what I do so no, what I do won't be explained in a few minutes. More like an entire weekend. Say, what are you doing this weekend?
Trust me, none of these monday-to-friday slave monkeys want to burn one of their precious weekends learning something.

Ohh, I'll have to get you to show me how to set up a website sometime --- Really? That'd be great. Okay, here's your first lesson, are you at your computer? Good. Now open your internet to any web page. There yet? Good. Now put your mouse pointer over any open spot on the page NOT on an image and right-click. See the drop-down box? Good, Scroll down that box and click on "view source". A new window should open. Yes, that's it. See all those lines of code and meaningless jibber jabber? That's what I work with. Still interested?
So far everone I've done that with has since left me alone about it.

Why not show me how to do what you do so I can make some side cash? -- heh, okay. For $500 a week I'll pull myself away from much (not all) of what I'm doing and give you one-on-one instruction for as many weeks as it takes. Believe me, compared to the bundle of official courses you'd need to take it's a bargain. Deal?
Again, no takers so far.

Get a real job -- ha ha. No seriously, laugh my fucking ass off. The only thing worse than being a willing corporate slave is one who is also a recruiter. In other words misery loves company, right?

Family or others thinking you can just drop everything at a moment's notice --- I have a secret... sometimes, just sometimes... I don't pick up the phone when they call. *gasp* But hey, when you're in business for yourself you have to prioritize your time, and idiots who don't know and don't want to know about how it is working for yourself rank very low on the priority list. Call them back on a Tuesday, late morning, when they're neck-deep at their "job" and leave them a message. Have loud tunes playing in the background and say "whups, gotta go, tee off time is in 20 minutes" or "I'm late for my massage".

In other words just be a smartass like me and none of this horseshit from people will bother you again. :D

Going into work and having to be there at your desk from ~9am to 5pm fucking sucks after a few weeks. It's a completely different mind set working from home and doing your own thing

There's still a lot of discipline and hard work that comes with that freedom. The hardest part besides learning the basics if you're a n00b is to realize that this is at very least a 40+ hour per week job and takes a lot of work with little pay for the first few months of working.
(For the most part..) there are no tricks or magic join links that brings in sales. It's hard work, repeating what works best, fixing what doesn't and learning how to evolve from where you currently are.. :upsidedow
