Classic 1940 Chevy stepside pickup truck [pic]

Just got back from the Marshville Festival in Wainfleet, Ontario - a pioneer event that included a vintage car and truck show.

Although normally a Ford truck fan - I caught this pic of a classic 1940 Chev stepside pickup truck.

Full-size shot here.

We must live pretty nearby to each other, I am a few miles outside Dunnville.

Yeppa, we're 12 mins. from Wainfleet.

Now, had you said you actually live in Dunnville...I'd have said, "Sorry about your luck."

The 70s was when people were downsizing to ugly econo buckets to maximize fuel economy - at the expense of styling (and power).

But I've always been a pickup truck fan - and the 70s were quite good for truck styling (my first was a '79 Ford stepside - which are still coveted by truck enthusiasts today).

I use several - these were shot with a Nikon d80 with a Nikkor 18-200mm VR lens.

The magic is in the post-edit.

By comparison - this was shot exactly 2 years ago - same venue (Marshville Festival) using only a Canon SX20i point-'n-shoot.

I love car shows. I like the 1960s and 1970s cars, mostly the sports cars.

an age when the usa used to make attractive cars.

shame they make ugly dull cars today.

those trucks seemed to run for ever.

not sure why they do not make them again as they seemed to run and run.

though my fav american cars are when they made cars in the 50's. they were art.

it's the same in Europe, vw used to make incredible cars(old beetle, golf mk1)..new cars are all rusty after 5 years.

Exactly.

They've lost the idea of artistry these days.

If you can go to this

http://www.newporthillclimb.com/

Is the oldest car race in the US, in Newport Indiana. Cars must be Pre-WW II. I've been several times, as a buddy moved there just to show his Model T in the parade. A Model T that broke down in every parade.

They will tell you over & over how some young guy, came and bought a car or parts to get in the car in the race. His Name Louis Chevrolet.

Best part is the raffle. For a dollar you can possibly win this year's car. They put it on the starting line, after all the other cars have done the hill climb. The winner of the raffle not only can win the car, but can be the last runner in the race. Possibly winning the race, setting the record for that car class.

Wish I could find my film. I have a 35mm of Model A's, lined on both sides of the brick street facing me with perfect fall Maple leaves overhead.
