Document Reveals Conservative Plot For ?Abolition? Of Porn
A paper published in a journal bankrolled by conservative millionaires authored by a conservative legal aide lays out a plan for the eventual abolition of pornography in America.
The article, authored by Morgan Bennett (who lists herself as an employee of the Heritage Foundation), argues that First Amendment protections do not apply to sexual material and that the eventual ?abolition? of porn would benefit America. Bennett writes in The Witherspoon Institute?s journal Public Discourse that ?the eventual enactment of new laws that would censor obscene internet pornography? should become a goal for those opposed to the material because porn ?undermines civilized society.? She argues that America?s founders, ?who lauded virtue,? would be opposed to the mainstream legal concept that pornography is protected speech under the First Amendment. The author, a law clerk at Heritage?s Edwin Meese III Center for Legal & Judicial Studies, concludes that ?our current jurisprudence, which protects depictions of prostituted?and therefore criminal?sex acts, cannot be the proper interpretation of the First Amendment? which means that ?the time for [porn's] abolition has come.? Bennett is a member of the Law Review at right-wing Pepperdine University. Ken Starr, who investigated the Monica Lewinsky sex scandal, is a former Dean at that institution. The Witherspoon Institute was the source of a widely debunked conservative study that falsely claimed that children in households with same-sex parents had higher use of drugs, tobacco, and alcohol along with increased risk of depression and suicide compared to those with parents of opposite gender. Witherspoon opposes same-sex marriage, despite its increasing acceptance by the American public. The Institute is funded by foundations operated by several wealthy conservative families, including the Bradley Foundation, the John M. Olin Foundation, the John Templeton Foundation, and the Lee and Ramona Bass Foundation. http://www.nationalconfidential.com/...bolition-porn/ |
