Just and FYI:

The shared hosting portal no longer functions for me, nor does the domain I set up earlier today. Both have timed out since early this morning.

Here is the portal url:
http://central.rackengine.com/index....hared-hosting/

ps. You might want to change your sig too, "Home of the Always not-quite-FREE shared hosting".

ya, that's a good idea. We are going to continue to offer a free hosting account, but there will be "some" limitations to it.

In any case, can you please send me the domain you are trying to access. I need your account information, or something to identify who you are in our system. You can email me [email protected].

Thanks,

I'm not interested in signing up, but curious, what happens if and when someone goes over their 15GB/month?

Well right now, you would be asked to upgrade to one of our paid packages. All of them have very generous bandwidth allowances.

Hello Coyote,

The limitations will be on the about of storage and bandwidth, as well as the number of MySQL Databases. It is still unclear right now if there will be a limitation on the number of add-on and parked domains that will be allowed on a free hosting account. However we will give you an unlimited number of email accounts but storage will be limited to the quota on your account.

In your ad it says "unlimited mysql databases" here you say there are limitations on the mysql databases, so what is it?

How do you imagine "unlimited"? You realize that you could not have for instance 1.000.000.000 databases?
Unlimited in this case just means that allowed number of database will be enough for 99% of clients.
There is nothing unlimited in web hosting, its just marketing trick.
Shit, its 1$ hosting after all.. And people still complain about lack of resources

Thats plenty for blogs. Lets say you host 5 mid sized blogs with 500/day each. Most blogs don't get more than that.
Obviously if you have super traffic blogs than it won't be enough, but as damagex said - its plenty for most of the users.

Depends, but in that case you usually need more than 15 GB/month... and of course you need to use FHGs.

Yes, fuck up good blog traffic by sending the surfer to FHGs designed by a half-brained Filipino who couldn't sell water to a guy dying of thirst in the middle of the desert...

I meant you need more BW if you want to host the content yourself.

So the limit is only on space. We figure that you may want to host several wp sites on the same account. Since the db's are really lite for the most part, the only real limitation is the over site storage. And since we use only SSD RAID 10 Storage, it's fast and reliable.

Well I spoke from my experience, but of course some people put more content on their blogs hence they burn more bw than me.

Anyway - 15Gb would be enough for at least 50% of the bloggers here so there is no point to mock it only because its not enough for some particular blogger.

They could get 50000000000000000000000 hits to their site. We really don't care, as long as they are in with in their allowance for transfer and storage, it doesn't really effect us.

Bottomline, we are giving away hosting, it's not a scam, it's an educational experience for us, and our team. At SOME point, we have to make money, but right now we don't mind spending a little to learn where we have holes in our processes and services.

Look I'm not saying our solution is perfect. And frankly there is not difference between us who A) was giving away hosting account to folks, and now B) is charging $1 and those guys they tell you they have fantastic shit and tell it to you for $3.

Simply out, our hosting is good if not great, (of course that is my opition, and my views is a little tainted since I own the place. )

Again the bottomline is, I am not in the business to give away services, I am in the business of providing a good product that can be trusted. At the end of the day, out of the folks that have signed up and used our solution, WHO has had a problem that we haven't resolved. If there is someone, please come forth and I will make it right, end of story!

sure, I just disagree with those "that's plenty" comments.

just ONE blog getting 500uv/day and that hosts images can easily burn more than 15GB/month.

Something is strange here. Just took a look at my 150/day blog and it burns 500Mb/MONTH. Your 200/day burns 9GB/month. Very strange.

Yep we do, our primary provider is nlayer, they do blended bandwidth and transport for us. Then in most of our colo's I have level3, HE, and Sprint.

In a few of our Colo's (mostly the cloud & shared Hosting) we use TW, Global Crossings, and Legency Qwest.
