That's the "normal" way the climbers are making a camp. They choose a certain part of their "root" to the top and they are making this swing alike suspension. Then they put a platforms and then they use the tents to protect themselves from rain, snow or wind.
And yes even from wild animals. Check for Bear Grills instructions - he slept hanging on his parachute ropes hanging from a cliff in land of the grizzly bears. It was necessary of doing this, but these guys wont be seeing the top maybe for days so they should sleep and rest somewhere. They even are leaving the camp on place so they should use it on their way back.
