"Fuck the fire...let's get a group shot!" [pic]

A favorite shot of mine taken this past summer.

Firefighters posing for a group shot while the farmhouse burns in the background.

It was a controlled burn on an old farmhouse donated to the fire dept. for training purposes. They coiled up old retired firehoses, scattered the coils in several rooms throughout the house - doused them with gas and fired them up.

It took less than 10 mins. for the entire house to be fully engulfed. They didn't attempt to extinguish it...just let it burn. The only thing they kept an eye on was the surrounding trees on the property.

It burned to the ground inside of half an hour. I got about 400 shots from start to finish from all angles.

Or perhaps the homeowner didn't pay the annual fire department dues... ok, obviously that's a staged pic

Seriously though, many places in the U.S., mostly rural areas, require everyone who desires fire protection to pay for it, usually annually, in advance - don't pay, the firefighters, even if they do show up, won't put out the fire; at most, contain it to the property. Google it - many people are surprised that fire protection in many places in the U.S. is an optional, paid service.
