                      File lockers as a business model are not the problem. The same can be said for tube sites.

                      It's ultimately how that technology is being used that is the problem. That is his point.

                                  Woz is taking Kim Dotcom's word for it that Megaupload and its staff were not directly involved in any infringement, and didn't do anything that could be construed as encouraging or inducing infringement.

                                  Many of Dotcom's critics are taking the government's word for it that the investigation uncovered all sorts of evidence to the contrary.

                                  IMO, it's a bit soon to be taking either side at its word with respect to what the evidence does, or does not, prove.

                                  As I see it, neither the DOJ nor Kim Dotcom has a record of truth-telling that is particularly impressive, so I'll wait for both parties to put all their cards on the table (should it ever come to that) before I decide who is more full of shit between the two.

                                              Yep I aggree with you lol, they should have gone after some of the big copyright uploaders and made a spectacle out of them to scare others from doing it, but with them arresting the owner and shutting the site down, if he walks its gonna give out a signal to alot of people that they have the green light to open file lockers and do the same

                                                      If you could open up a file locker with a check from McDonalds, half of GFY would be doing it. However, the infrastructure can be pretty intensive to run a good one, especially if it grows fast and scales.

                                                      That being said, most technology can be used for bad intended things. Doesn't really even need to be online as there are many examples in daily life. However, I think that was what Woz's point was.

                                                      I am not saying he should get off scott-free. But I think they need to be persecuting the INTENT, not the technology.

                                                                      My understanding is that it isn't entirely cut and dry whether the mistakes and procedural errors associated with the raid necessarily undercut the whole case against Dotcom. The U.S. DOJ maintains that it has enough evidence that was collected entirely separate from the raid to make its case, and I believe the U.S. is asking the Auckland court to extradite on that basis, irrespective of the legality of the raid, or of the warrants issued in connection with that raid.

                                                                      All I know is that the U.S. case law and relevant rules of evidence at issue are beyond my comprehension.... and I know even less about NZ legal standards, so I'm going to abstain from making any predictions on this one, either way. ;-)

                                                                          His analogy doesn't really make sense here. I promise you if 50% of the mail carried by the post office was illegal, there would be HUGE calls to shut it down or regulate it.

                                                                          MegaUpload isn't some special new technology that must be protected. There are countless legitimate places to upload your personal files, pictures, videos, back-ups, etc. Nobody is calling to shut those down. MegaUpload is simply the result of a guy seeing a loophole in a changing landscape and cashing in before laws and society caught up.

                                                                                      Manwin posts on GFY - The same people who are frothing at the mouth over Kim Dot Com and MegaUpload are the same people licking Manwin's balls over their latest acquisition, site, or gesture to the industry.

                                                                                      I'd be willing to guess that at least one person in this thread (or others like it) slamming MegaUpload have praised Manwin in their past threads....including the recent 5-6 pager for Babes.com.

Do you believe megaupload does not have the intent of allowing copyright infringement? Do we believe the growth and earnings is not primarily derived from illegal activity? Get caught sending anything illegal through the mail the feds will ruin your life. Set a business up based on theft of copyrighted property and you get arrested. Makes sense to me.

                                                                                                                          I believe it's hard for file lockers who have affiliate programs for uploading content, and then 90% of their clients are uploading mass volumes of content, and it turns out to be copyright violations and DMCA notices all day long... to justify their motives and claim to be innocent.

                                                                                                                          I think any owner would find it hard to justify their true INTENT. Especially when the file locker is directly tied to feeding their forums and other sites. There are a number of ways to help prevent this. However, few seem to want to implement them because it would chase away their darkie uploaders
