Good forums for runners?

Do you all know any forums that have good information for runners?

Someone I know has had leg issues for over a year. They've had a barrage of medical tests, can't determine what is wrong, and he's wanting to see if he can find someone with common experiences.

Should be able to make enough money @ the site above to buy your friend a new leg.

runnersworld has a good forum on there.

is the pain in the side of the knee? common running injury that most people think is a knee injury but its actually its IT band stiffness. I've had that before anyway. Just took a masseuse to work it out.

It's in the shins, though the PT people told him something about his calf muscles being...calcified...I think that was the word.

I've got a lot of information on it, but the whole thing is pretty long to post here. What I glean to be the most important parts are:

a) Was then 24, physically fit, and primarily a cyclist type, who increased his running program by about 300% of what he had been doing. (probably too fast, wasn't stretching as he should have been, and in old shoes). Started having pain, and he tried icing it for a couple of months to see if that helped. It didn't.

b) Went to doc, was diagnosed w/ shin splints. Stopped all impact exercise at doc's orders, and was given some pain medicine which had no effect.

c) Had plain film xrays to look for stress fractures. None were found.

d) Had both a bone density and a bone scan (the one where they inject you) done to determine problem. Docs couldn't find anything. They followed that up with another plain film xray.

e) 2 months of PT w/ a sports injury specialist, with no improvement.

f) Was then sent to a sports doctor, where they tested for Chronic Exertional Compartment Syndrome, and that came back negative.

g) Doc they have sent him to now wants him to start Neurontin to see if that helps with the pain on the basis that it might be something neuropathic. He's adverse to medications in the first place, and this one has some potentially nasty side effects.

h) At some point in all this, he also stopped all forms of exercise (except simply having to walk) for 2 months to see if that helped. It didn't.

j) Looking for anyone who might have experienced something similar, heard of something similar, etc, to see what their treatment was. Very anxious to get this behind him and be able to run again, as this has been going on over a year.

Not sure if they have a forum, but a good resource nonetheless.

This, there is a number of stretches you can do to avoid the problem. Also having a good pair of shoes is very important.

Take a look at RunningTimes which is for hardcore runners, the type that eat, sleep and dream running 24-7. They have both a forum as well as a section on their main site called "Health/Injury". I'm guessing if anyone has experienced the same issue, your friend will find the answer somewhere on there.
