Two assistants. In this case one holding each light. You can't leave the lights unattended in a situation like this or they'll end up in the water.

Choopa Phil 08-09-2012 10:18 AM

Yep...beautiful shots...and I wish more people would understand and learn that.
It's not needed to "have a bigger, badder camera"...it's how you use it.
And by looking at these, you use yours very very well!
Great stuff!

I have to laugh at people who think they must have the latest greatest camera and then they shoot crap. I maintain that you could shoot these pictures on any cheap camera so long as you at least have a hot shoe and manual settings. Just learn how to do lighting and get good at your skills.

The natural scenery in these are flawless, and make the girls look superfluous.

I can totally recommend NZ, but get out of the cities and go into the remote countryside to see what NZ is really about. Stunning scenery.

JP-pornshooter 08-09-2012 05:38 PM

wow, nice work and from our email conv you know i am an admirer of your work.
but to take talent so far to take the shots, thats impressive.

i dont know if to look at the landscape, crashing waves, sunset, low clouds all very very nice by itself, and then two of the hottest up and cummers in the foreground..

I like traveling around. I might as well have a few models in tow. I mean if I got to a location like this and didn't have a model to shoot I'd be regretting it.

Ring flash? Or Strobes w/battery packs? Spot on about the fancy camera advice and manual settings. I did alot of work in Hawaii and have some cool locations and plans to do more in the future. We should talk.

Lonny 08-18-2012 10:11 PM

those are some very nice shots..

Especially since "the set" is constantly moving I.E. WAVES!!! You can NEVER turn your back on the ocean. Nothing like shooting with your periferal vision while you try not to get smashed by a wave and lose your camera. Exhausting but worth it in the end. EXCELLENT WORK!!!

I take some chances getting shots close to the water. There's been quite a few times I've splashed the camera in the waves. Usually the LCD screen is the first thing to go. Then the zoom quits functioning. On the odd occasion the camera is kaput but usually just let it dry for a few days and it starts working again. Always have to have a back up camera on hand.

Radical Bucks 08-19-2012 08:17 PM

What camera body did you use for the shoot? Just curious

HA! Lost my LCD screen on my video camera day 4 on a 4 week shoot on Molokai and did the rest TTL on my eyepiece. Try doing that walking on Lava Rocks and sand with reef shoes on with no toes. Ate shit a few times. I also had a model sabotage my camera by trying to watch her sub-par footage and mistaking the "Audio" button for the "volume" button and of course I didn't notice till my client got the footage after we got home. Lovely. Most people don't realize how expensive and risky a beach location shoot is - just that it looks great. Great work once again - hit me up if you outsource any work to other shooters. I get super hot 100% exclusive models and have great locations in Cali & Hawaii.

OMG... 10 points for not learning to read or having a clue.

It's OBVIOUSLY a cardboard box camera with a pinhole in the side with a 1 minute exposure. A car drove by and illuminated the models and stopped the waves like Gandhi and kind of like Moses too...

But on a serious note... he already said that it wasn't about a fancy camera - it was all about the lighting. And in this case everything was on manual after he took a light reading TTL (Through the Lens) or with a meter sans models and kept it on those settings on Manual and added light with a flash or multiple flashes. The problem with that is that in order to get an F-stop worth a shit (like 8 and above) your flashes or strobes work overtime and drain the batteries very quickly. You can remedy this by changing them out every 50 pictures or wearing a heavy battery pack around your waist or in this case - have some assistants holding them and the strobes running up and down the beach with you. You can also use SB 800's and sinc them all together and put multiple flashes on your camera on a rack which makes it heavy as fuck and awkward to boot. Oh, and BTW - with the settings on manual you need to change the settings every time there is a slight alteration in the light or move the lights backwards or forwards to make up for it. Photography is easy - just point and shoot.

I see Dean posts a lot of his pics here from time to time. Let me know if you want to see more of my sets here like this.

awesome shoots dude!

Jay-Rock 12-03-2013 08:36 AM

Nice shots like these take time and collective effort to make it happen. Great shots you must have shot at least f16 and a very high wattage setting on your strobes to get all that sharp.
