Bought traffic / plugs - trying it this week. Suggestions? - GoFuckYourself.com

Going to experiment this week buying traffic off-the-shelf for our paysites. We did not try this before.

I'll start with some plugs, trial and error and tweak.

Found helpful threads on this board about Plugrush and others - albeit mostly from the point of view of the publisher rather than the advertiser.

The plan is to start with a minimal budget, and spend the week cracking the sustainability nut. Then, obviously, scale where it works.

Assuming the conversions of our current sources, we would be able to bid the max bid on quality traffic. HOWEVER, I expect the conversions to be much lower, at least at the beginning of experimenting. I'd be very happy if I could break even with scalable sources, ideally by the end of the week.

Any helpful tips from that anyone is willing to share?

Reflinks are also welcome (and clicked through) for any source you would recommend

Tip #1 don't use plugs

If you are going to send it to your paysites I would only buy clicked text link traffic. I've been pretty happy whenever I purchased from Ravo over at buyfpctraffic.com. I've also had decent luck with Juicy Ads in my sig, and I also tend to only buy from the sites there that offer text links...

I'm nothing to do with Rebel Ads or SCG, it's just a genuine honest tip from the many different traffic sources I've tried

I would stick to "clicked" traffic if looking for sales

Traffic-Out (clicked traffic, can geo target)
Juicy Ads (clicked traffic, buy from sites with high percentage of quality countries as traffic source)
Plug Rush (buy "plug" traffic here as that=clicked, can geo target)
Buy FPC Traffic

are you sending to standard tours or to landing pages with galleries/videos etc?

With clicked traffic I send it straight to the tours, so long as the site I'm sending to has a good tour. I tend to do better with paysites that have tube style tours but that could just be me...

Set your expectations extremely low

Not to say you won't be able to profit or even break even, but you won't see the results you see on your organic traffic.

I'll give you some tips when buying plug traffic.

The most important factor is selecting great thumbnails that attracts clicks and leads to a good landing page. If you have thumbs that get a high ctr, you can get away with setting a lower bid per click, but still get a good amount of traffic. Plugs are prioritized by a combination between bid per click and ctr.

Secondly, it is important to keep an eye on the traffic being sent, and actively monitor what sources the traffic comes from. You can see this in Google Analytics if you breakdown by source and filter only widget.plugrush.com. If you also setup goals in analytics, you can see which sites sending you traffic that converts. Then you can login to plugrush, and block sources with low quality/non-converting traffic.

thanks for your input!
Our test is too small so far to judge anything, but if I were to judge I'd say plugrush seems to work awesomely atm.
We got the first sale after literally the first couple of bucks spent. I am cautious and we've probably been VERY lucky, but it's really not a bad start. Bounce rate, timeonsite etc are also very decent compared to what I was expecting - congrats for the quality of your traffic!

Regarding tracking: yes, we are setup to track every possible detail, down to single different links on each different picture of our galleries, different templates used, etc etc. Also, we carry the referrer site from widget.plugrush.com in a utm variable all the way through the fhgs and on the on-paysite navigation flow - we can tell which sites on your portfolio convert best with each type of pic, template, landing pages etc etc.

Again, I am cautious but it looks very promising so far.

We also offer GEO targeted Run of Network campaigns as well, but Direct buys as you say do very well too.
