For too long, people have just been sniping keywords off Google. Looks like that's no longer a viable option. We all have a choice now-do we focus on our customers primarily or do we keep hoping the easy days of siphoning off traffic from google returns? Live by Google, die by Google. Instead, build on customers and let their feedback/clicking patterns on your site guide you to building a site around them-their experience-their expectations.

I understand what you are saying but its not relevant to this thread, having a happy userbase doesnt help google seo anymore, Ebay listings should NOT rank high for porn keywords on google.

Lol to the disbelievers and have their own "proof" that Google does something differently. What Google wants to do is spelled out on their own pages. They tell you exactly what they are doing and how you can help them and yourself get better search results. nickutis, rogueteens: Take the time to read what Google is doing, from Google's own pages. Jumping to your own conclusions or believing what some seo "expert" over Google is a mistake.

What Google tells you to do is follow THEIR guidelines. However, their algo is still easy to game and many people keep gaming it. Thus you end up at the bottom of the barrel, if all you do is follow Google's guidelines.

I've noticed the same, google knows that most wordpress sites and blogs are garbage that the surfer doesn't want to see anyways. :2 cents:

So the same garbage in a static format ranks better? Good to know.

You'd kiss Google's ass too, for the right amount of traffic. ;)

Can you please tell us more about googles mathematical formulas and algorithms based on "luck"

Thinking like this is bad for your business.

Google does not have anything against porn. The only Google product that does not support porn is Google Adsense.

If your site suddenly fell in ranking due to anything that Google did, it is Google improving how they rank sites to provide better search results to their customers. It has nothing at all to do with porn.

For example. If you had an Olivia Wilde tribute site, full of photos and articles about Olivia Wilde, proper tags and good content *about* Olivia Wild, Google would like you because you are providing exact the content someone searching for "Olivia Wilde" would want, and especially click on.

If other site owners ALSO agreed and linked to your site, Google would like you even more, and give you higher ranking on search results.

If those back links are from useless pages, scripts or other "bad" things, Google will lower your rank. IF your site is not relevant to the announced or advertised subject, your rank will drop again.

If your site was doing well yesterday and poorly today, it may be because Google has changed how they rank sites, or they found something they don't like.

I was talking to our Google ad rep yesterday. We buy Google Adwords for our site, www.2Much.net, and I asked him if it was ok to link to a porn site, then got on to the topic of porn sites in general. He said just what I said above. Google only cares about delivering quality search results to its customers, porn or otherwise.

yes, that's what they say. But in reality, it's complete bullshit. When i look at my sites, what they say and what is actually happening is completely the opposite.

this is true, but penguin seems to have wiped out my game plans, like they made a 180. Sites that were quality to google before penguin, are now shit according to them (page 80 serps). It doesnt make any sense.

I even seen spam sites ranking better then my site, and by spam site i reffering to site which have auto generated content without any sense.

nico-t 07-27-2012 07:50 AM

the worst thing is once google decides to bury your site, you can write it off. It's nearly impossible to get it to rank well again. With good domains and sites where you've worked hard on, it's a huge slap in the face and a goddamn waste.

You can't beat this image, Google will always show sites with big traffic first, regardless of the fact that these sites may not have exactly the content the surfer is looking for.

Try a forum.
I have one that I don't make a nickle with because I don't want to mess with building it up.
I delete the spammers every few days and let it sit.
I went from position 5 and 6 to 6 and 8 today.
No big deal. I'm sure that won't affect my traffic much.
One day maybe I'll figure out how to monetize it or just sell it off to someone that knows what they're doing.

They are hell bent on getting rid of "thin affiliate sites". Too many ads with affiliate links with little content = you are gonna get smashed. The older/more authoritative your site is, though the more you can get away with.

Yeah i started to wonder would it have more sense to build new sites instead bother with old ones, especially if it's negative seo in action which atm seems it's almost impossible to combat.

scottybuzz 07-27-2012 02:46 PM

Instead of Olivia Wilde, let's take a softcore model Lilly Roma. Let the google rep explain how this is diverse, quality results? 1st result twitter, 2-8 results dailymotion, 9th result official site.

Google penalizing made-for-ads sites has been a long-known and confirmed fact for at least a couple of years now.

We have lowered a little recently too, not sure what they did. But the sites above ours now are still adult sites.

That was made for adsense, not made for ads.I mean just look at tubes, they are full of ads including popunders dont see them losing ranks.Eventually you could call a banner farm site made for ads but if your site is content rich then you can put billions of ads and it wont be problem.

Billions might be a stretch ;)

Can't wait for the next update, want to see what happens with a few things that I(we) did over the past 2 months.

Well there is reason why some seo tools have HTML/text ratio when you check your site.

Made-for-ads. Includes made-for-adsense and thin affiliate sites. Google has been slapping all kinds of affiliate/adsense sites, including Amazon affiliates, TGPs and so on. But hey, believe what you want, not exactly my loss. :)

No need, it *is* true. Sure now and then you can get a site back, obviously, but in the main like you say, forget it. I do agree with some of your other comments though Damage, especially regarding affiliate links, though again, as Klentaris says, you have a huge motherfucker of a site, added with insane amounts of backlinks, mostly truly organic, and it isn't such a big deal.

Sorry for the comma overload in that last sentence everyone :1orglaugh
