I don't mean to bump an old thread and don't usually, but I just had to take my cat to the vet, and unfortunately I lost her, but here is the deal, she tells me.
My cat was eating from her littler box and started to deteriorate in health and I ran her to the vet as fast as I could get her there, this topic came up, as she was doing it too... she had an iron deficiency, from a flea infestation she got from getting out my front door. She started feeling bad and we first thought she had gotten into something.
Turns out the fleas were terrible and they caused her red blood count to drop like a bomb and she was losing iron bad and couldn't make it up so she was looking for iron in her own litter box.
I remembered you had asked about this and I asked her if the same could be said for a dog, if they could have an iron deficiency as well. She said it could be possible and to feed them liver, raw, boiled, higher iron diets and so forth and they should be good as long as it hasn't gotten bad, which yours doesn't seem to have.
She went on to say it could be other problems, or she is just bored or acting out or any number of things, but to be safe, feed her a bit more iron and see if that fixes it, if it does then you know the issue causing it.
Again, sorry for the old bump, I just thought about this when my cat was doing it and asked her about it.Get in Touch on Telegram if you need a hardworker - (since 1999) - All About Me!Comment

is there even a dog food in existence that isn't rich in iron? I really doubt it, unless you are feeding him rice..I don't mean to bump an old thread and don't usually, but I just had to take my cat to the vet, and unfortunately I lost her, but here is the deal, she tells me.

It wasn't a complete infestation, she was deathly allergic to them and she had gotten outside. We bathed her, but they had already started biting her pretty good and her immune system wasn't strong enough to battle it, she was old. 11 yrs old. She had been outside for 2-3 days, we couldn't find her.
And yes that's what I thought too, but she said some animals, like humans, need more iron because their bodies don't maintain it as well as others.
My daughter had a diabetic dog, which I had also never heard of. lolGet in Touch on Telegram if you need a hardworker - (since 1999) - All About Me!Comment

She didn't make it, she was old and her immune system couldn't take it. The vet was even surprised about this one, she didn't have THAT many on her, she had some, but not just covering her like one would think. I keep Revolution on them in the summer.. that is some powerful shit, but she just couldn't take it.... it attacked her immune system within a very short period of time.Get in Touch on Telegram if you need a hardworker - (since 1999) - All About Me!Comment

We have a Cesar Millan amongst us!
My youngest dog - as well as my daughter's youngest dog - used to try to eat the shit out of the cat box. They grew out of it.
Dogs sniff turds - they like the smell of turds, oddly enough. If the turd they're sniffing smells particularly meaty - they'll fucking eat it. They can't tell the difference between shit and chicken.Comment
