About 20 years ago i was working in Taiwan when we had a monsoon and 69 inches of rain fell in one night. As i recall no one died but we lost about 1.8 million pounds ($2.4 million) of our work in one night, destroyed by the rain !!

It's worth mentioning that a small town mayor was dead in his car.when his body was found this morning and many people felt very happy because he was an official.
We have been having floods here in the UK too over the last few weeks, Yesterday and today have been our first real sunny days. The Jetstream has finally moved thank god, but we got stuck when a river in the next vilage from us burst its banks and flooded the roads and some houses, The rescure workers turned us back because they had allready pulled out two cars and further on down the other way the fire brigade were pumping water off the roads into the fields.
If the water in our garden had risen another few inches we would have had our house flooded to, and I know Scot who posts on here had his house flooded, We have had real bad rain all over the summer and a lot of people had thier houses flooded but thankfully only a few deaths
We had some flood recently, and they were nothing compared to these pictures. I can't imagine what these people are going through.
We just had our conference room redone do to a Flood that took place on May 22nd. Our gutters couldn't handle the rain and the water came upwards, which they weren't designed to do.
Seems to me like we see more extreme weather each year...
I agree, and it's the same in Sweden. Since measurements started in Stockholm 1901 there have never been as much rain as it have been this year. It's the same in several places all over Sweden.

in my opinion .. every year we see more extremes ... because each year we record more and more stuff ... we have one million tv stations .. everybody now can make a photo or a movie..
The point is .. this stuff happened before ..we just haven't known about. Today .. news travels in an instant on the other side of the globe. Any anonymous photo or movie can be news in 5 seconds.

Yes that's part of it, but it's been scientifically proven that larger quantities of high magnitude earthquakes have been occurring... certain areas including the USA are experiencing the worst droughts in many decades, the first half of 2012 has been the warmest every recorded, mass animal deaths have been reported all over the world, etc etc I could go on...

As long as the factories that make our electronics are ok.....

Chinese "officials" are such a FAIL. I wish the Chinese people would REVOLT and CHANGE China into a Great Nation.
No excuse for the loss of life. Chinese people deserve better.

Come on Captain Kawaii,it is not cold enginery times. the gov. have many army and police .anyone will be killed if he try to resist.though there have thousands of violence in this country every year ,more and more officials have to maintaining stability .
while in fact, In this country, most of people still have no dignity living. they don't want to resist with this state machinery and just want to living.beg from the government. If the government give alms little money or food with them.they would be pleased. It appeared to me that this country people still remain in their present low and primitive condition.

I don't remember where I came across the info, but someone did a study on extreme weather patterns pre and post the 2004 Sumatra earthquake, the one that knocked the earth off axis a little. Seems that afterwards is when everyone started seeing more and more extreme weather.
No idea if that is the real reason or not, but there is no doubt "the worst in 50 - 100 years" keeps happening in various places of the world.
No, just a normal rain, many people dead because of bad sewage systems.
That doesn't make sense. Looking at the photos, they say either a flood ran through there and trapped all the cars (and moved them around), or Chinese people are the dumbest fuckers on earth and sat in their cars until there was 4 feet of rain on the streets.
Shots like these, are not typical of just a hard rain. That looks like a flash flood came through, especially in the shots where cars are moved quite a bit.
Whatever the case, seems to happen every year in China in some tiny town in the middle of nowhere.
