1986 BATMAN: The Dark Knight Returns comic shows theater shooting

    http://washingtonexaminer.com/batman...rticle/2502701

The horrific shooting at the screening of The Dark Knight Rises in Colorado late last night bears eerie similarities to a scene in the 1986 comic Batman: The Dark Knight Returns. In the comic, a crazed, gun-toting loner walks into a movie theater and begins shooting it up, killing three in the process. The passage concludes with the media blaming Batman for inspiring the shooting, though he is not involved in the incident at all.

The 1986 comic, written and drawn by Frank Miller, was a key inspiration for the Chris Nolan Batman films. It helped to reimagine the character away from his Saturday morning cartoon image and into a dark, grim avenger. The point of this particular scene in the comic was to show just how far Gotham has fallen since Batman had retired.

Was the shooter imitating this scene from the comic? Maybe, although in the scene the shooter is portrayed as inspired by his disgust at pornography and heavy metal music. The police?s investigation will surely reveal more in the near future.

Editor's note: This post has been updated to reflect the correct date of the 1986 comic, The Dark Knight Returns

Americans are obsessed with death and violence and then they act all surprised when actual violence breaks out.

Maybe if you didn't take your 6-year-old children to see movies with blood and gore and people getting murdered they wouldn't be as likely to grow up and actually do it in real life.

But this shit always falls on deaf ears, you will all keep packing those theaters to watch more death and violence.

                  That is no coincidence.

Time for a USA comic book ban. For your safety, of course.

The problem is good decent parenting is a thing of the past.

The young kids are corrupted with evil shit by the time they're 10 these days.

kids in America are generally speaking much more limited than their European cousins to watch movies with violence (and sex). UNLESS the parents dont follow basic parenting.
BUT have you seen some of the video games out there, talk about violence.
and think about, kids playing video games have no social skills, no friends (cept for those online) so going out and shooting others probably dont seem overly abnormal.

It's all over the world. Violence is everywhere, in our movies, on TV, in games, and even in certain styles of music. No doubt it's harmful.

Next thing that will happen is there will be a special government body commissioned at a cost of many millions of dollars with the task of reading all comic books ever published to identify other potential threats and targets.......

Interesting view this one, maybe its time to say NO to easy-to-sell guns and violence on TV and Hollywood but only americans can decide about it thru their civic groups and political representatives, good luck USA

Batman comics have essentially been straight horror for the last 20 odd years, the slide from grim and gritty to outright horryfying was so gradual no one noticed. You look in the bat books and you'll find examples of every kind of murder and sadistic crime you can possibly imagine and some you can't.

So I'm not surprised you can find a theater shooting in there, probably five if you look hard enough

I would say most American children are exposed to large amounts of movie violence pretty young. Sex is another thing. I don't have kids, but my brother and most of my friends do and in almost all of the cases they don't mind if their kids watch a movie with a lot of violence in them. They believe their kids can tell the difference between fake and real. But if one of those kids sees a titty or a bare ass or sex it is like the sky is falling.

American boys play with toy guns and swords and fight battles with their friends pretty much as soon as they are able to walk. Violence is breed into our culture in many ways from a very young age.
