Fleas.. Help!

I have a two yr old mutt I rescued.. DOG is my buddy and goes everyplace w/ me..

This is his 1st summer at my place. I have a big field behind my condo that I take him to run and play in. The field is right next to a wash and it overrun w/ wild rabbits.

Needless to say DOG has gotten infested w/ fucking fleas.. I tried some frontline plus and it did not seem to do shit. I bathe him weekly and I have been spraying down the inside of my place w/ spray almost daily and they still seem to keep getting on him.. HELP! Anyone have any good ideas? I have not even taken him to the to play fetch out back and today during his bathe he was infested again..

I prefer something natural over chemical but am not afraid to use em..

i use a product called advantix. in ten years i have seen maybe 2 fleas on my dog. he sleeps at the base of my bed. we go out every day too.

to properly do the job you would have to wash all bedding, carpets etc and maybe bomb the place ( look it up and gas it - last resort tho)

bombing isnt going to help that much, it will kill what is there, but you will get another wave of them shortly.

1- shave your dog, it will help with the fleas, and your dog will love it during this heat wave
2- bath him every couple of days with some sort of flea shampoo
3- at least once a week, give him a bath in some canine oatmeal shampoo... this will help his skin repair from all the itching
4- after the shave and first flea shampoo bath hit him with advantage flea medicine... not natural, but your dog will thank you for it
5- vacuum your carpets every single day until the fleas are gone

good luck, fleas are a bitch to get rid of once you have them... the eggs can lay dormant in your carpet for a year, so make sure to vacuum often

we use Advantix because it kills and repells fleas. Where as it seemed like Frontline just killed them.

frontline or advantix, and bomb the house. Wait a while and bomb the house again. Flea eggs can lay dormant for a long time, then someone walks on them and they hatch.

Bombing my place is not an easy option since I also have two 20 yr old red earred sliders in a big tank in my living room. In order to bomb I would need to get them totally cleared out too.

I'll pick up some advantix and see if that does better then the frontline did..

Good advice so far.. More ideas?

Get the food grade diatomaceous earth. It kills ants and fleas naturally.Choker swears by it and I tried it and it seems to work pretty good

Fleas

Over the counter flea medicines won't do it. Go to a vet, pay the money, it's worth it. Had fleas last year due to no rain & heat. Using the vet medicine this year, no problems.

Don't shave your dog until you know it's safe for it. Shaving a dog in the summer can be a bad idea...

Get the vet flea med & rabies shot. Cat had a bite on her today. Must have been the hedge hog that's back after 2 years. Thought they were friends. But the hedge hog is the likely suspect. Don't want to lose the cat & sure don't want to have to get rabies shots for myself.
But we've had zero fleas and weather is worse than last year. Fleas on a dog or cat are like you having a heart attack. You need professional help. Vet said a dog without shots "might" survive worms, but a cat is a goner, and fleas bring those worms. Haven't had a pet for years, but I'm not losing this cat that is so cool, no litter box in the house. No smell, she goes out in the fields next to us. Now if I could train the deer not to poop in the yard.

Ok, first of all.... having a fucking dog in your house in fucking disgusting.

Forget the fleas, what about dander? Live in a southern state? what about ticks?

Dogs that come indoors are just fucking gross. If you take offense to this, then your just a fucking dumbass, but keep your dog in your house and keep getting bit by fleas and subjecting your friends and family to same gross and disgusting scenario.

Trust me, there is nothing cool about it.

If frontline or advantix are not working for you, then you let the problem fester for too long. Now that is just being an idiot right there. That shit has been on the market for so long it isn't funny. Maybe you should just get rid of the dog and let someone who is more capable of taking care of it and themselves a little better?

That's how I really feel.

Dogs in your house is just fucking gross.

They stink, and sit and lick their ass and balls in front of you, and track shit on your floor and in your bed. Who the fuck said they let their dog sleep in their bed? What the fuck is wrong with you?

It is just fucking dirty, filthy and disgusting.

If you like to lay in your dogs shit, then by all means, welcome the flea bags into your house.

If its got them bad, then the Bayer Advantage drops on the back of the neck do the trick.
I live in the country surrounded by chickens, wild cats, cows, sheep, donkeys, so in flea season she gets a few.

If you dont want chemical try a nit spray, usually made from fennel seed, you'd have to spray and comb a lot though, just go with the drops. That keeps them off for a while.

How often do you apply it on them? I know Buddy is out and about all the time w/ you.

I am hoping and assuming that once I get this case under control then he will be fine. Its just his 1st summer exposed.

Once a month, every month. We have been using it since he was a puppy, I am a strong advocate for their product. Fleas can be a real problem here, but they are not because he doses monthly.

Order it at dog.com, cheaper than a vet will charge.

We use advantage once a month, every month during the year. Our dog has one of the longest thickest coats I've ever seen on a dog, and we've only had 3 fleas in 10 years, they all fell off pretty much dead. Must be nasty stuff, but it does the job.

It should say on the instructions. But you usually have to apply it to your pet every month. It;s well worth the cost so that your pet or you doesn't suffer from fleas and other shit

I was just talking with my vet and she said they will be switching over to advantage

During the summer I give my dogs a bath daily, plus I use wipes made for dogs to give them a quick go. We also vacuum the floor and funiture daily, plus the dogs are not allowed on the furniture, except for an old couch. As for tracking things in, I clean their feet when it's muddy out. All you have to do is put in the time and effort to keep the dog and house clean

None of those advantix/frontline,ect works on the flea's in my area. Tried every fucking brand on the shelves. The dog would go outside for 15 minutes and come in with 50 new fucking friends.

just toss table salt all over where the dog sleeps (kills any eggs) and give the dog a bath every other day with dawn dish soap and lather the fuck out of fido up to the neck but obviously not the head, the bubbles/soap gets in their gills or whatever they have and its a death sentence for a flea and vacuum regularly and the problem corrects itself.

Oh and get a flea comb and comb the unsoaped head/ears and shit out during the baths. After a week or 2 you'll have it under control and won't have to give the dog a bath constantly. At that point just dig thru some fur and see if ya can find anything to see if she needs to be bubbled up again.

You can not buy Advantage on the shelf; and if you are buying shampoo off the shelf that is not going to work either.
