Freedom for those who can handle it and fuck those who can't.
A certain number of people are going to die no matter what, so why fuck with people's

Most of the time, yes. But not always.

One of the main reasons that those with bipolar issues stop taking their meds is because of the resulting weight gain. There's other meds that do the same.

hmmm, I did not think you were saying that. I was responding to your comments, not the poor person eating chips.

the thing is: you treat diseases that hardly exist in other places (like being bipolar, anxiety, add) with meds that are hardly needed in other places and then create results that are hardly known in other places.

the US pharma industry creates an artifical demand to maintain their record profits because once you talked people into imaginary diseases they are hooked - either to fight their imaginary diseases or because the medication made them sick and they need other medication.

I don't disagree with any of that.

Even in the case of real diseases, the existing system chooses to "treat" them rather than to pursue the old school solution of actually curing them.

Be that as it may, most folks tend to follow their doctors advice for what it's worth.

While that MAY BE TRUE, there are also very real diseases that require medications that will make you fat. Just because you are not aware of them does not mean they do not exist.

:2 cents:

It's not in the constitution that you can have whatever the hell you want without limit. It's the opposite that is true. This country is GOVERENED from A to Z.

Can you have a nuclear bomb under the second amendment? Nope. You can't even have certain kinds of ammo or weapons at all. Banning a CONTAINER size from certain establishments has nothing whatsoever to do with your freedom to drown yourself in Coca Cola (although suicide is against the law, so although you're not actually free to do that, you could probably get away with it).

Anyway, it's too damn hot. I'm going to chug some glasses of water, but I wont be filling a bucket and drinking out of that. Just saying that for the sake of.. I dunno.. illustration?

yeah, high blood pressure medication like beta blockers for example. i am very aware of that since i take them. but it's not the meds that make fat, they slow down your metabolism and its taking longer to burn calories

but there is also one very simple rule: if you eat more calories than you burn, you will become fat

i know you eat very healthy and you're not fat. Easy as that - obviously.

do you think that the people you see that weigh more than 10-15% more than their normal weight are that fat because of the medication they take, or because eventually their daily calorie intake exceeds 1600-2000 calories (depending on being male or female and their height)? When one Big Mac with fries and a Coke already have like 1500 calories - without supersizing it.

and thats just one meal that day.

Again, just because you are not aware of them does not mean they do not exist. No one is talking about high blood pressure medicines.

Google prednisone for just one example

Well, you ask "what is good policy". You didn't ask what's in the constitution or how the
country is governed.

I just gave my opinion of "good policy".

i said "for example" :2 cents:

but the percentage of people with medication induced weight gain should be insignificant compared to the total number of obese people

or do you think otherwise?

i wonder if there are numbers out there...

Same thing here in eastern Europe minus the scooter, of course!

Gozarian 07-06-2012 04:50 PM

corticosteriod like prednisone never made me fat just made me crazy as hell. I can deal with the bum knee pain but feeling like my head would erupt like Vesuvius - intolerable.

Exercise does a body good, people. Folks just don't want to move anymore. We're turning into sentient blobbies.
