    Report a File Locker Hotline ?

    I am considering funding a 24 hour / 7 day per week global hotline to report illegal and stolen content on File Lockers.

    My thought is to have a toll free number that anyone can call to make a report. Sites on which file locker uploaders also discuss their "business" could also be reported.

    Thoughts ?

                              We already have a contact form. I have had several messages saying that people are worried about using it. It's a bit of a catch 22, but if we guaranteed anonymity on a hotline people who are still concerned could use a payphone.

                                          What to worry?I mean there is no requirement to leave your data right,you post bad url and that's it.If someone is worried about having his ip recorded or something like that,then he can use anonymous service like hidemyass.com(or other since that one is owned by pirates hehe)

                                              Although I applaud your enthusiasm I don't think shit will happen with Paypal in the short-term.

                                                  Anyway, it's just an idea I was throwing out there. I'm willing to set one up if it's useful, if not then no worries.

                                                              Yes a small psychological impact is possible, but it wouldn't amount to anything of substance - they're not going to close up shops because of a hotline. Not a single one of them.

                                                              I think this hotline will eat alot of resources - not only the money spent to maintain it, but time as well to work with those reports, while most of them will be pointless or repeat reperts of what we already know. Besides, what do you really need it for? To know about piracy - but we're the webmasters, we know those sites better than anybody else and can report any amount of them. Just let us know what do you need, because it's you who's in contact with paypal and only you can know what works on them. Just let us know what do you need, and in what format - lists of piracy sites (mainstream/adult), screenshots (featuring what? what format and resolution?), how many per site etc. Just create a description of format and let us to take care of reports - ppl will be sending you lots of them, I'm pretty sure of that. But they need some guidance because nobody wants their efforts to be wasted because you needed something else for paypal.

                                                                                          I think a toll-free number to report illegal / stolen content is a great idea and easy to push on social media, web sites (makes pornslingers look like they care to their surfers) on blogs, and oh on TV ;-)

                                                                                          Lots of people with children out there that would appreciate a # they could report stuff they find to...

                                                                                          Just make sure to mention it is 100% CONFIDENTIAL - who likes calling in things when they're not sure if you name them later or so...

                                                                                          #StopFileLockers should be easy to reach and follow on any medium and a toll-free # would make a great addition (also in terms of pressure)

We have thousands in the database - those include tubes and torrents too though, but we can weed them out. And also harvest from Google any amount of new ones, since they're popping up every day and our database is far from being complete.

                                                                                                                                                      We can also add a few examples for each site of what kind of stuff is being "shared" there.

                                                                                                                                                      Just let us know what do you need.

                                                                                                                                                                  - it won't have THAT much psychological effect. No one will shut down because there is a phone number
                                                                                                                                                                  - I don't know your business background or sponsoring regarding this project, but I suspect you can't run this crusade by yourself forever and funding a 24hr hotlink out of pocket will get really pricey.

                                                                                                                                                                  I think a confidential form that doesn't log ip address and doesn't request email address or anything is a better option. If you want to go that route, hit me up and I can give you a hand.
                                                                                                                                                                  Alternatively, if you want to make it "quick and easy" to report CP and stuff, some kind of firefox plugin or something might be more effective then a hotline...

The name of the site and the type of infringing material. These two things will go into a database and as patterns emerge we will prioritize the sites with those names. It's going to be very simple for the caller. We don't need urls we just need site names. We dont need file names, we just need to know what the type of material is: ie: is it pirate software, child porn, pirate movies and so on.

                                                                                                                                                                      It may have some psychological effect, but this is not it's sole aim. It's aim is to provide us with a clearinghouse of patterns.

                                                                                                                                                                      This whole campaign has been pricey, in fact the cost so far has been considerable because of the methodical way in which research and communications is being conducted. This isn't about money, it's about achieving a goal. The goal being to tear apart the illegal file locker industry.
