They banned the sale of fireworks in Australia unless you're a licensed pyrotechnics engineer because kids used to blow their hands off with them.
I remember as a 10 year old being able to go to our local milk bar and buy all the fireworks I wanted for about $5 (a milk bar is a corner store). |

A couple days ago 2 teens from the LA burbs were arrested for using roman candles as weapons. They set a 7 year old on fire. Banning and jailing violators is probably not a bad idea. Our neighborhood has been fireworking for 2 weeks now...
