I dont know about any of you but I never just stare at my desktop ... shit its only visible when i restart shut down or grab something handy from it while working. to me... thats what its for now. Its to place goods that you currently work on or just havent gotten rid of. mostly as a scrap table.
What other rightful purpose does it serve... I know everyone doesnt work like me and do different things.. so im asking..

Well, for me it's not so much of choosing a minimal desktop as it is never using icons from there. I mean, I generally have a lot of windows open, and it's much more efficient to open programs from the menu than it is to minimize to the desktop all of the time.
For example, here's mine... and if I cared enough to edit the settings, I'd remove mounted drives from there as well but considering I never actually use the desktop for anything, there's no need.
