    Kindle....iPad....Paperback

I've been toying with the idea to get a device to read more. I'd love to get an iPad but I think I'd spend more time on sites and surfing the net vs reading. I'm thinking of getting a kindle oldschool style instead. Or do I just go with the classic paperbacks? I'm running out of space on the shelves tho! :-P

Question of the day...what do I go with?

I have a basic Kindel, love it.

I didn't want a normal tablet because of the glare on the screen. I wanted eInk with no glare. It looks like I'm reading a book.

I have the Kindle fire and love it. The screen looks good and it can do apps and internet if you want. I use is mostly for books, but I do play some games on it from time to time too.

Got an iPad. Sucks for business as I can't sync Bento. But as a book reader great. Does, iBooks, Kindle & Nook. However, Nook & Kindle weigh less, smaller in the hand. Important factor for my arthritis, I love paperbooks, but my reading light keeps someone awake. iPad solved that problem. 1st iPad had issues. Went to Apple store, no questions asked gave me a replacement.

My wife has a Kindle, and it's pretty much like an Ipod. She can watch movies, play games, read books, Facebook, search, blah blah blah.

I read voraciously and while I love reading on my galaxy tab theres nothing really that compares to a book, I love the feel of a new hardback and specially the smell.

If its an entertaining read Im looking for I read the ebook, if its something I love I buy the hardback.

Have a few signed first editions too...my prize is the 50th anniverasry limited edition first printing of Animal Farm illustrated (and flat signed) by Ralph Steadman was very rare, Steadman hadn't signed many, dunno if thats still the case

I've tried all these methods, and my favorite still is the 2nd gen (?) kindle. The one that nows sells for $79 with special offers, or $109 without. I have the one without. I don't know if the $79 one is annoying or not. I also prefer the E Ink display to the backlit. Plenty of space to load up whatever books you want to carry.

This is the one I'm talking about.

I'd like to give the Kindle Touch a try. It looks like an improvement.

Ignore the previous post, the one I have has a keyboard, so it's just before the one available now. I like tapping the buttons on the side to switch pages. I don't know how the new one changes pages as you read.

You can't compare eBooks and tablets if you ask me. It starts with battery lifetime which is much, much longer on a eBook which is optimized to read long texts of books.

You cant choice between water and meat, because these are complete different things. Electronic ink readers are ideal for reading. LCD-based devices are for Web surfing, playing games etc.

                                          Nook Books

I use iPad, at Barnes & Noble there are hundreds of free books, I think Amazon also has them. Books you can't find a paper copy to buy.
Donald Westlake is a famous comedy-crime writer and several of his books were made into movies, like Bank Shot, with Georce C Scott. I found 2 mystery sci-fi books of his I didn't know existed. I got them both for free.
if you get an iPad, triple check you have a backup. Thought I did, when I took it in for the replacement, got home and there was no back up.
Also use Documents to GO as it lets me have access to my Excel spreadsheets.
AS for Amazon, B&N and the Apple Store, shop around each book is a better price. So I have to check all 3 each time I buy a book.

Setting up my 3 year olds new Nook Tablet that we got him for his birthday, right now. My daughter has a Nook Color and this new version smokes any of the smaller sized eReader type tablets. The BN Nook line is quite nice.

I got an iPad a few weeks back to use as a filmmaking tool and there are lots of great apps for that too. I wouldn't pick one up just to use for reading, it's quite a bit of overkill in that department. I do like the larger size though, which is cool because there are a few HP Touchpads laying around the house loaded up with the most recent version of Android.

The Kindle Fire is nice, but the Nook Tablet has better specs.

                                            Spend you some brain.

                                                ebooks vs paper

Much as I love my iPad to read, I still by paper books. I don't buy as many as when I was a store's best customer (and that's in a college town), but I try and give them support. They have discount cards I always give to other people to encourage them to buy there. I even order books from them I could get directly from ABE or Amazon.
Some books are out of print and you have to buy paper. I'm currently reading a book of a counterfeit bond scandal, in Kansas, during the Depression. It almost bankrupted the state. I can only get it in hardback. Which is OK. I can order a copy and give to my lawyer as I know he'll enjoy the book. hard to give an ebook as a gift.
Still have over 400 paper books to read.
Bad thing about paper books, nobody else will take them. I've tried to sell them on ebay will almost zero success. Even had a signed copy of the guy who designed the World Trade Center. Got zero offers. Of my collection, sold 2 books.
