I can overlook stuff like that, it's not a deal breaker for me. |

This is also what pissed me off with PROMETHEUS. I mean, I'm sorry. This is Ridley Scott. I expect 100 percent Godlike perfection. But I guess he's only human too in the end :( |

NIP/TUCK started out good too, but was nothing but pure over the top exploitation by the time it ended. Speaking of the THE SHIELD, has anyone been watching BOSS on STARZ? Kelsey Grammer is doing to FRAISER what Chiklis did to THE COMMISH (by doing THE SHIELD) with this show. |

The Shield was another great one. Probably a close third to BB and The Wire on my list of favorites.

That's why it's even more amazing when things like BREAKING BAD and MAD MEN actually get made on stations with commercial advertising. This is AMC though. Example on FX: (this keeps making me laugh over and over just thinking about it and this is just one of the things on this series) On SONS OF ANARCHY, the two broads (mother and girlfriend) are killing themselves all season to hide some papers or notes or some fucking thing from the punk in line to take over SAMCRO. Then in the last show (or the one before it) when he reads it, he literally says out loud in dialogue "What does this mean?" Now that is just fucking too funny to me. Not to mention it took him like 3 seasons to finish his father's novel and this is supposed to be a kid who's going to take over a criminal organization. I mean you can watch documentaries about 1%ers that should give you enough info to write more believable characters than I see on this show. |

The thing that bothered me most about it was the pointless surgery machine - it reminded me of that scene in 'Thank You For Smoking' where they are discussing the possibility of having a character smoke in space and Rob Lowe says, "Easy fix, one line of dialogue: thank god they invented that machine that allows you to smoke in space." |

The Wire is a little bit too all over the place, IMO. |
Not to stray on topic but this particular scene is televised perfection

The thing I loved about THE WIRE was the way the bad guys weren't really bad guys and the good guys weren't really good guys. The cops were some of the worst pieces of shit on the planet and some of the drug dealers had morality and integrity. Also, no one ever got what they deserved good or bad (actually this isn't true entirely, but it took a long time to get there for a lot of the characters). There was none of these cardboard cartoon characters you see on most crappy cop shows. Anyways, that's just my opinion but GAME OF THRONES does a lot of this too (fleshing out the characters and making sure people don't necessarily get what they deserve). I like writing that doesn't end in Disneyland themes and bullshit happy endings (unless the characters really earn the happy ending) Even on positive endings, I personally usually like more of a bittersweet resolve than some off into the sunset bullshit. |

It is actually one of the best series ever written and reason you should give a series a few episodes at least before you judge. :thumbsup |

I finally got around to seeing this show, just started into season 4 now.. damn is this one intense.. grabs you from the get go.
why are we comparing this to the wire? The wire reads like a novel, this one is a thriller. Not even close to being the same thing. |

The Wire is the best written show ever.
Mad Men is a close second. The reason more people don't give Mad Men more credit for it's writing is because 90% of the shit goes right over most people's head. Its fucking brilliant shit. A good example is the toothache/abscess Draper was developing. No one I've talked to got the significance of the ache and the rotted teeth. They thought it was just a useless plot point. In reality it was symbolic. |

But since you are the Mad Men expert, do explain to me the deep symbolism of the dogs fucking... |
Took me a while to realize that the bald guy was the dad in Malcolm in the Middle.
