Canon 1.4 50mm lens... Anyone??

Anyone here shooting on a Canon 1.4 50mm?

We're using the 1.8 and wondering how much more amazing the 1.4 is...?

Is it really mind-blowing as people on youtube say?

Thanks for your take on this...

Not that different, little better bokeh..
still fragile focus motor..
Look at the sigma 50mm 1.4 - but you might need MFA since they can have front focus/rear focus issues

It's great for low-light shooting with a very VERY shallow depth of field. I don't use it much because paysite members whine & complain about the focus. They say stuff like "OMG, can somebody show Dean Capture how to focus his camera"?

In all seriousness, it's a beautiful lens for the money

How often do you actually shoot that open though? My fastest is 1.8 but it is very rare indeed that I shoot at that, nailing focus is just too hard except for very static controlled portraits and stuff like that.

I bought an old FD 50mm 1.4 and I like it a lot. I got it for the cost of my 1.8 on eBay.

Don't waste your money, if you're not using the 1.2 L then what's the point of hitting that dof when your quality is shit?

The Canon 85mm 1.2 II is so much better. Once you use this lens you will not worry about shallow DOF. Just keep in mind.. its all about your distance from the subject.
Stay 5 feet away from your subject and every bit of that subject will be in full tight focus at f/1.2
Only when you step in closer than 5 feet will you have parts of the subject out of focus.

Better to save your money and use a f2.8 lens.

Most lenses are very good, and no one can tell what lens was used to take a photograph. There are just too many other factors that effect quality.

When a person brags about what lenses they use you know you are talking to someone who never really understood what photography is. Original ideas and creativity make great photography not the resolution and contrast of one lens in comparison to another.
