and why do people need that? how many people will register .privacy? "yes, please contact me at my email, lucas131 at email dot privacy ... yes, privacy ... i know, but it was cheap ... hallo ... hallo ... ???"
Seems to me they want to categorize the internet by assigning all doctors to .doctor,
lawyers to .lawyer etc.
Already we have .gov that's pretty obvious.
It will be interesting to see how it all unfolds.
I'm betting on categorization though.
this will probably make the value of .com's only go up
Maybe for a while, but if there are 1000s of TLDs in a couple of years, of which many owned by big corporations such as google (so they have a big chance of actually being used .youtube .docs .facebook etc.) the new generation of internetters will be so used to all the different extensions they won't have any clue what .com is.
So .com will definitely use its value, maybe it will take 5 years, maybe 10, but in the end it will just be a random extension like all the other ones.

This. Web pioneers are what made com king. Now folks will be spending a ton of money in branding others. A mail.google or vanityurl.fb could change everything.
