Justice, Bolivian style

All these long drawn-out pointless trials, like the Cleveland case with Ariel Castro, where the hearing will drag on for months and years, or the surviving Boston bomber and what's going to happen to him, the humongous cost involved. Maybe they could learn from a tiny village in Bolivia who seem to have found an excellent balance. Santos Ramos, 17, was named by cops as the possible attacker with the rape and murder of a 35-year-old woman. A 200-strong mob from the village sealed off all roads for the day, got hold of him and buried him alive in his alleged victim's grave, they lowered her coffin on top and covered it with earth. Case closed.

That was the second vigilante attack that day in Bolivia's Potosi province. They stoned to death a suspected murderer and burned his accomplice after they killed a motorist and stole his car. No action taken by the police.

I know it will have a knock-on effect on lawyers not earning huge fees, judges sitting comfortably for many months as cases drag on and on, but it does free up prison spaces, and saves greatly the cost of keeping them there. Lynchings are not uncommon in parts of Bolivia, where there is a minimum cop presence. Also explained when a mob killed an off-duty policeman when they mistook him for a thief. They can't always be right.

The only problem - "possible attacker" and "suspected murderer".

And I guess all those villagers are highly educated people, and unbiased and took all aspects into consideration before doing so.So if only someone tell you are suspicious, that is enough to take your life?

I'm all for criminals getting what they deserve, but he was mentioned by police as the "possible attacker". See why we should be glad we don't do it Bolivia style?

Odds are they murdered the wrong person and should do mob justice onto themselves

I don't know how many reality crime shows I've seen where they've labeled people as possible suspect, suspect, or person of interest and they had nothing do do with the crime

Remember, it is suspected kidnapper of three Ariel Castro, and alleged killer Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, but I'm willing to take anyone's bets that they get found guilty, despite the fact I have no legal qualifications. Even OJ Simpson's lawyer would struggle getting those two off.

Sadly, you can't take up the title of guilty until convicted after a criminal trial. I think those villagers were likely right having read the reports.

Muslim terrorists attacked Glasgow airport a few years back by driving into the building then setting their car alight. The police and fire brigade had to protect the burning terrorists from the Glaswegians who "tried to put the boot in"

Bilal Abdullah eventually died from his injuries (not those putting the boot in). After the trial, over two years later, Kafeel Ahmed, was later found guilty of conspiracy to commit murder and was sentenced to 32 years in prison. They were also suspected to be behind the 2007 London car bombs plot and 2005 Indian Institute of Science shooting. If this happened in Bolivia it is likely to have been dealt with much swifter and at less cost.

But there was enough evidence to charge them and they were taken into custody
