Dual Monitor vid cards?
I'm at the point to where I need to run dual monitors.
What do you thing of your dual monitor system? Like it? hate it? What are the better video cards out for this? Keep in mind I do a lot of graphics work. So I need something that will work well with doing graphics. Monitors are a dime a dozen so I'm not worried about that. I'll just be using 17" monitors. So what do you think are the better ones. And if you can, try to give a price range. Right now I'm just trying to get the low down on them. Many thanks Oz ...:::SEVEN:::... |

I have a Radeon 8500 myself - unless you need the performace of the 9700 Pro, I wouldn't waste money on it.

The problem with buying a video card that supports two minitors is that none of them allow you to set different resolutions on two screens. Your computer treats the two monitors as one desktop and it gets very weird. A bunch of people who have a dual monitor card also have problems maximizing windows since they stretch to the size of the two minitors.
I have All In Wonder Pro (AGP4) and a nVidia TNT2 (PCI). The combo works like a charm. I also use Ultramon to stretch the tool bar to the second desktop. Total cost is under $200. I suggest you use two independent video cards for a dual monitor setup.

XP supports dual monitors - no need for a second video card. I run an additional flat screen off my laptop with no problems, both at different resolutions.

I am using a Matrox G550 and its nice.
If you don't do much gaming on the system in question, you can't beat it for the price. |

Dual monitor? Go dual system!
This is a pretty sweet app that lets you share your cursor and keyboard accross two systems so you can run multiple OS's. Great for Unix/Windows settings. http://www.hubbe.net/~hubbe/x2vnc.html |

I'll take GeForce4 Ti4600 over the ATI Radeon 9700 Pro any day.
ATi 9700 is a fast beast but the drivers are not as stable as nVidia's GeForce line of cards. Once you go Dual Monitor, you will never go back, I guarantee it ![]()
