Its not a GUN BAN, it's Victim Disarmament

Take away guns and you only disarm VICTIMS, not the BAD GUYS.
The BAD GUYS will always have guns people. over 80million guns are
already in the USA and the majority of them did not require registration.
If you ban them people will only hide them. I would. :-)

Mexico is a prime example of this.
More shooting related crimes in Mexico than in almost every country in the world each year and they are highly illegal to have.

Banning weapons like the AR doesn't make any sense.

The shooting in Norway was done with a hunting rifle, and the Virginia Tech shooting was done with handguns.

If you're going to ban an AR, go ahead and ban all semi-auto style weapons including handguns and hunting rifles.

I own an AR15, and my H&K 45 handgun I would consider a much more dangerous weapon...

Also if somebody is so messed up to do something like this, I'm sure even if every gun style was banned, they'd still find a way to either get a gun illegally or find another means of doing as much damage.

So you are saying those poor children were armed ?

Or are you saying they should have been armed ?

What about nobody is armed. How about that one ?

Or should the size of the problem mean that you should just do nothing ?

You can remove the guns from a population, it is not impossible. It is a false argument.

How many guns do you think were in circulation in Europe at the end of WWII ?

I don't think it's fair to compare the US to other countries - each country is different when it comes to firearms. In Mexico firearms are illegal, yet gun violence is epic - but that's because of the drug cartels. In Switzerland everyone has firearms and is trained and there is no gun violence. I don't believe the United States can fit in either model.

I've been reading some chatter about arming teachers, which is laughable. I took a look at my kid's teachers this morning and it seems that they are all older men or younger women, the types that have never fired a gun.

I took own an AR15. However, I fail to see the need for anyone to own one. There is only on purpose for an AR15, and it's not hunting or target practice.

At the same time, a ban on assault rifles isn't going to fix much. It's just banning one type of weapon, not handguns or rifles - all of which are used in these killings.

When is everyone going to realize that it's not guns that's the problem. People are the problem. And as Roc pointed out, they're going to inflict damage from either illegally obtained weapons or other means such as bombs. Right now there are firework tents at every corner where I live. Someone could buy $100 worth of 180's, remove the powder, and do more damage than anyone with a gun. People are sick and no ban is going to stop them from hurting other people.

i'm not one for banning guns myself, however, this problem doesn't really happen in canada, and part of the reason is we don't allow or have heavy assault weapons and handguns aren't as available and illegal for most of us. I am not saying its necessarily better but it most definitely deters people from doing things on a whim or in a weakened mental state.

maybe making people jump through a few extra hoops isn't the worst idea.

This was my point. It has nothing to do with guns. Sadly where there is a will there is a way.

Not a bad idea I'm all for that as well. It's very easy to buy a gun... maybe have to pass a test like driving a car...

... but still if a criminal / crazy person wants a gun, they're going to get it either way

There will always be a way, but with firearms we not only give people the power to kill people at "long range" without having to physically touch anyone, we also empower them - most of these killers are timid and afraid of their own shadow.

Proof of gun laws not working is a look at which states/cities have the most laws, yet still have the highest crime. Look at DC and Chicago. Strictest gun laws in the nation, most gun related deaths.

same people that want guns banned wanted to ban "shit" after Timothy McVeigh blew up a building with it. But they just didn't want their names on the Ban Shit Bill
Carbon is not the problem, it makes up 0.041% of our atmosphere , 95% of that is from Volcanos and decomposing plants and stuff. So people in the US are responsible for 13% of the carbon in the atmosphere which 95% is not from Humans, like cars and trucks and stuff and they want to spend trillions to fix it while Solar Panel plants are powered by coal plants
                                think about that

i have a couple guns, for hunting.
                                      no assault rifles.
nobody in America has a need for an AR, hunting rifle OK, different story.
hand guns for personal pretection OK different story. But only 1 hand gun per FBI cleared individual, no need for half dz guns to protect yourself.
criminals can still get guns but "criminals" dont shoot up a class of elementary kids.
the NRA needs a generation change.
