    Homicide, Texting While Driving Case

Good for him. Cell phones need to be off while driving.

"Aaron Deveau, 18, was the first driver to be charged and convicted of motor vehicle homicide by texting under Massachusetts law.
Prosecutors said Deveau, who pleaded not guilty, was texting on Feb. 20, 2011, when his vehicle swerved across the center line of a Haverhill street and crashed head on into Donald Bowley's truck, killing the 55-year-old father of three"

Don't know about that, bluetooth is what these idiots should use. Personally, I would prefer to ring someone than text them - typing out 10 words takes longer than ringing up and saying 'hey how about it'

I was in a taxi a few weekends ago and the driver kept texting. Problem was he was all over the road and I asked him twice to stop. Had a friend in the car and said if he did it again, we were getting out. Luckily there was a cop near by at the gas station and we jumped out, told him and pulled the taxi over.

Two years ago there was a taxi driver going down a two way street who driver over the middle and slammed head on into a couple in a car with a kid. They suspected he was texting because when the police found his phone, there was a half written text about picking someone up.

Good for the law. Should be a lesson to people not to be stupid

Actually I do. When I ride my motorcycle, 75% of driving time, it's in a saddle bag. When I'm in my truck I turn it off and put it on the console. Not being an on call heart surgeon what phone call can't wait until MY CONVENIENCE to call back? The idea of being constantly accessible to everyone, being at everyones beck and call is something I hate and won't do. What is so important you need to be immediately available? Even at home I'll turn the ringer off half the time.

Being a slave to your phone is a recent development. One I don't follow. So yea I pretty much pay attention when I drive.

That kid had 193 texts that day I'll bet none were of any substance. The Betty Ford Clinic needs a phone addict program.

There's a generation of adults that feel naked without a phone in their hands and muscle reflex makes them constantly text or call about the most mundane things. I don't get it. No one has a private thought anymore.

Pretty crazy he's only facing up to 4 years in prison. There's plenty of people doing longer than that just for possession of drugs.

Back in the day T9 made texting while driving halfway manageable. Now smart phones with touch screens make it nearly impossible. I don't know how people do it or why they'd want to. I'll sometimes read a text if I'm chilling at a red light or respond with 'k' or something if I'm stopped, but otherwise, it can wait.

I can't even get my lock screen off if I'm driving. Requires way too much staring at the screen.

I'm back in Maryland this week where they have a no cell phone policy unless hands free. Driving on the beltway I see a guy in a police uniform holding his phone and chatting while in his civilian car. That shit pisses me off. Obey the law like everybody else.

You should have waved him over, walked up to his car and told him to smarten up.

Off duty cops are all very humble when out of uniform and love it when a citizen reminds them of the law.
