I like that they're going to release it in the Theaters and VOD at the same time.

This will be a HUGE part of the movies business in the near future and beyond.

It cost very little to make ($24 million...I wish I had $24 million to play with) and pulled in almost $100 million worldwide before licensing and DVD sales.

This new one cost around the same to make and will probably pull in bigger numbers, because people are more aware of it now because of the first.

Really? I thought the first one was great, but I am convinced there are 2 versions of the first movie.

The version that I saw had:

- A Stunning Lesbian water ballet sequence
- A girl with big tits get sliced in half by a wire while she was standing up
- The "Joe Fancis" / Girls Gone Wild guy get his cock bitten off (then chewed, then barfed up)
- The Wet T-shirt host guy (Eli Roth Cameo) get his head SQUISHED between boats)
- Some girl's face PULLED OFF by her hair (caught in a boat propeller)

It was one of the most violent, gory movies I had seen in a long time, and it was definitely the goriest movie to star such a cool cast (Chris Lloyd, Elisabeth Shue, Ving Rhames, and I almost forgot the super sexy Dina Meyer, who I wish was featured more). But mediaguy watched it and the version he saw had none of the above. WTF?

Oh and no wonder it rocks. Piranha was directed by Alexandre Aja. Smart guy.

Anyway part 2 (or 3DD or whatever) doesn't look nearly as good as the first one, and to me the simultaneous VOD release of the movie screams "direct to video" for me. Too bad.

It's got nothing to do with the quality of the movie. Day and Date releases are the future of studio movie distribution.
