It's all about your style and preferences. I like old Olds 442s, Camaro SS's and things like that. With those you have plenty of room under the hood to go the pure cubic inchec route. If you want compact cars like that movie, Hondas have a LOT of aftermarket support and plenty of parts available. The Subarus are getting more popular, too.

Street Racing is too wild.

It's easy enough to get into competition open wheelers. At least there you'll have an ambulance standing by.

Just race gokarts

The 125cc shifter karts can do zero to 100mph and back to zero in 6 seconds. And costs less than $10k. They can pull 3 G's in turns, enough force to break your ribs against the seat. The only thing with higher perfomance is an Indy or Formula 1 car.

I totaly lost my love of sports car after getting into racing karts. Sports cars are boring now.

Well for me drag racing has been a large part of my life ,
that is the one thing i miss the most living here in the philippines that dont have it here

For me tho it isnt cars but bikes , In 99 i was lucky to have gotten to race NHRA Prostock Bikes , and man what a RUSH that was ,
you never felt speed till you have done 7.40 at 189 on bike

Street racing is fun but not to safe , if your going to do it keep it at the track and have some real fun there

Depends what you want. I've owned an MR2 turbo, a Stealth twin turbo and a Supra twin turbo, all modified to some degree. The Supra to 400+ horse.

In all honesty, test drive some cars you like, in terms of what they look like. Then decide which one you like best for interior, handling, etc etc. What you like as a car, not as a "platform". Any problems in terms of performance can be solved with money.

Supras aren't as great as many people think they are. I suggest you talk to Supra owners if you're looking at getting a Supra. They are overpriced due to people who think they're a lot better than they really are. I sold my Supra, and don't miss it that much.

In terms of cars with modification potential, I'd say the top 3 are the Supra, the Eclipse GSX and the RX7. Each have pluses and minuses.

My favorite car was my Stealth twin turbo.

As for the "Fast and the Furious" lifestyle, it doesn't really exist. The import scene is mostly powered by 200 hp commuter cars with loud exhausts owned by guys who use their cars as their idenitities, but most live at home, have no girls, no lives.

It's definately not like the movie... I've been in the import scene for a few years and its never been cool. Raced at the local night street race spots, etc... gets old after about 2 months.

Besides, rice is played out now anyways. The import scene is dying off, and fast. Wouldn't waste the money, but hey it's yours to waste.

FYI DJ Furious the Skyline engine is actually just a standard 3 litre open deck 6 cyl that only handles around 600 crank HP stock. Same as the 300ZX or 3000GT motors. nothing special. Only the Supra block has known to go over 700 stock.

i couldn't even imagine ripping a time like that, or anything close to it on a bike that would need wheelie bars

There's a TON of street racing that goes on here in San Diego - they're killing people left and right (which sucks obviously).

I get ricers all the time trying to test my '01 Cobra convertible (375hp) only to get dusted. They just don't realize how fast the Cobras are.

So much so that I've already put money down on an '03 Cobra: 390hp from the factory, and with some minor bolt-on mods (Bassani X, airbox mods, boost tweaks, etc - NO CHIP) you can push close to 500hp WITH A FACTORY WARRANTY. So basically you're getting Viper-like performance for $40k.

I've also read an article where they swapped out the factory Roots-style blower for a Kenne Bell and got a streetable, drivable 600hp but that would break the warranty.

[Warranty is important (to me) because if I trash the car, I want to be able to take it back and make them fix it]

If you're serious about modifying a rice-mobile, be prepared to spend some cash.

I have an OLD 89 ford escort that I've been messing around.
My car isn't even a heavily modded, and I've spent over 10k$ in it. LOL, and I've done nearly every bodykit modification by hand. So That's a big save too. It used to be an xr3i model, but I swapped a Turbo motor and shit in it. It's a fun toy, but considering I've spent 10k in it... uhh.
Fun though. Ricers rule.

(for the record: I couldn't have bougt a new car with that 10k. Cheapest cars are 1.0 liter small cars.. they cost around 14k$ new)

Your in for some work dude. You have to have passion for cars and deep pockets. I miss the scene and I am going to get back in very soon (I used to have a "94" Twin Turbo Supra with BPU mods)....lots of fun, but to make a serious run at some of the real fast guys, you need way more than BPU and that takes time and cash.

If your budget is high, go with a 1993/94 Supra and start building from there. Hit me up on icq sometime and lets kick around some ideas mad man. Remember, you are a big dude and power to weight ratio is important...the Supra will give you all the horses you can handle. (not cutting on you by any means either, we've met and you know I'm straight up). I have some buddies here in Vegas who still drive and they have well over 600 bhp at the rear wheels. Check out http://www.to4r.com/ for some ideas regarding Supras.

There are some other great rides to work with also, but I'm biased (Big Time biased :-)

Cool Big E. I got a 01 cobra convertable too with a few mods. 4.10 gears and what not. Pretty sweet ride. Been thinking about trading it in on a vette though.
