Chrome now more popular than IE

Google?s Chrome Web browser has continued to gain market share since its introduction in 2008. Despite surpassing Internet Explorer in select regions and on weekends, Google?s browser has never been able to dethrone Microsoft in global usage share. According to new numbers from StatCounter, however, Google?s browser has finally averaged higher traffic than Internet Explorer for the first time over a full seven-day stretch. From May 14th through May 20th, the Internet giant?s Web browser garnered a 32.76% share, ahead of Microsoft?s 31.94% and Mozilla Firefox?s 25.47% share. At the start of this week, however, Chrome?s share began to slide, falling to 31.88%, just ahead of Internet Explorer?s 31.47% share.

I started using FF because IE was too slow. FF started slowing down and is a resource hog so I started using Chrome. IE and FF do not even come remotely close to comparing to Chrome in terms of speed.

IE will have a strong position because its bundled with Windows. It has no redeeming qualities.

My experience with these browsers is exactly the same: I went from IE to FF, then got tired of FF's resource management (or lack of it), and migrated to Chrome. I have a few issues with Chrome, but think it's easily the best of the bunch.

Great news, hopefully will force MS to make IE more standards compliant making it simpler to design webpages for all browsers.

Chrome keeps updating strange things for me. A week or two ago, for no reason I could determine, google instant turned itself on. No problem you say, just go to the wrench icon and turn it off.. However all of the controls in there were missing. I literally had no buttons to click or sliders to slide, haha. Made a bug report and a few days later it corrected itself.

Another quirk is how it never empties it's cache automatically, or doesn't provide a switch to tell it yes or no to empty the cache. So no problem, you go to tools and do it there. Now they've moved that very common item to an "advanced" section of settings. It's the one tool/setting that I use several times per day and now an extra click?

Also when I used to go to Plugins, it would open a new tab which was very convenient.
For some reason now when I need to adjust a plugin, it opens in window I already have opened for petes sake. Again, an added click to open a new tab is a weird upgrade IMHO.

Chrome also auto-updates the adobe flash plugin without giving the user the ability to use an older version. Which is terribly inconvenient considering that on millions of older machines, adobe flash has been buggy since the end of March.

I like Chrome, but I don't love it yet.

Chrome has recently gone to shit. I have different browsers set up to do different things. I fire up Chrome now and I get four icons: Chrome WebStore, Gmail, Youtube, Google Search.

I did not upgrade the browser or agree to any new terms and conditions. It used to automagically log me into Youtube. Now its just four little icons.

Useless Chrome is now gone. Hopefully - one day - useless Google will be gone, as well. Keep sucking Google dick - and be sure to swallow.

I'm not surprised. IE has always been the worst browser.

Chrome sucks badly now, I went back to FF months ago after I upgraded Chrome and flash stopped working among other slowdowns and crashes.

I use all three... with the majority usage in this order:
1. Chrome
2. FF
3. ie - until it locks up or crashes, then I just kill it and stick with the first two

For speed and massive multi-tasking, Chrome's top for me. I'm glad to see the market is catching up.

I gave up on IE many years ago.

First I switched to Opera and now I like Chrome the best.

in a sea of slop your posts are the potatoes that sustain me!

chrome is indeed the best browser - certainly for webmasters who demand low resource use combined with functionality. for me the 'inbuilt' inspect element is worth the switch for that alone. combined with the fact it is fast and actually useful is a nice bonus

The new FF updates have caused a lot of issues/problems with my backend software. Considering jumping ship to Chrome now.

Haven't thought about IE in ages, what a terrible browser.

Not really sure how looking at two sites shows they are wrong. w3schools is widely recognised as the best place to keep track of browser market share and they report:

It was reported yesterday on NPR.org that for US market, IE is still dominant browser. IE is expected to rise as Google is slumping and BING being bundled with lots of new toys and new cars now...I wish Google would implode. No chance for now but I can hope. I prefer FF, when it is working.
