Check out Clonebox. It keeps four complete, bootable copies of your server ready to go at a moment's notice.

When evaluating backup, keep in mind the Rules:

Backups must be fully automated - otherwise you'll eventually neglect to do it.
Backups must be rotated - having a backup from midnight does you no good when you were hacked at 11:30.
Backups must be offsite - when the fire at The Planet took out 20,000 servers, anyone who had "backups" from the same host simply had two melted servers.
Backups must be tested - recently a web host pointed me to their "backups", which had stopped running 18 months prior.
Backups must be quickly restorable - it can take 48 hours to retrieve just one file from magnetic tape.

Clonebox is of course not only compliant with the Rules of backup, but a shining example. How long to restore your server? Clonebox can boot the backup and have you up and running in 5 - 10 minutes.

I am using godaddy online storage for family photos and videos, kind of slow uploading, but with coupon it worked out to around $1.50 a month for 100 GB. (5 year deal)

I am also looking at idrive for online storage..

I also burn on CD/DVD and external hard drive too

Really? You are happy to give google the right to use any of your content for any reason, inc commercial it wants, world wide without asking or compensating you?

Backing up to your own computer seems most logical but I'm a simple man.

or rather client side and move it to a removable hard drive

What happens when you are robbed, or there is a fire or flood? I guess you can't value your data that much...

It might make sense to have a good look at the Rules, or requirements for workable backup. Newshound up your personal holiday photos is one thing. Your sites, your business, is a different matter.

How long would it take to upload all your content? Two weeks? Then to re-install all of you scripts and fix all of the file permissions? Are your critical databases backed up at all? Do you even have any way to test a restore so you know that you got everything correctly? To backup a server to your Windows desktop or something like idrive might be okay if you don't mind your sites being down for two or three weeks. If you're running an actual business and being down for a couple weeks isn't okay, professional, business class solutions are called for.
