Affiliate Programs? Start your own, or?

If you are looking to do a new site with huge affiliate potential, are you better off to join an existing affiliate program or start your own?

At what point should you shop it? If you were just in the idea stage - lots of chance to have your ideas jacked...

The real money is in being first out the gate with a niche, no?

Only start an affiliate program if: A) You have a paysite B) you have helped promote other affiliate programs and done so successfully. If you just start with nothing, it will die. Too many ppl try and are unsuccessful at it. Big money is what you really need.
