Married people: Do you have separate bedrooms or always sleep together?

Serious question. Because there seems to be a trend going on right now in new home development where upwards of 60% of new homes are being built with two master bedrooms.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/6441131.stm

One of my brothers has been doing this with his wife for many years already, sleeping in separate br's. In fact he's built about 7 or 8 houses by himself over the years, and the latest ones he's built for them have both had two master br's.

Just wondering if anyone here has jumped on this train. Me, whenever with someone I've always preferred to sleep in the same bed, but then again I'm generally a quiet sleeper who doesn't toss and turn or snore much.

Apparently many couples who do this, sleep separately, report having MORE sex in the marriage.

Anyone here have an opinion?

My wife and I have been together 22 years, married for 12, have sex five or six times a week, but sleep in different rooms.

The truth is we both snore and when we sleep together we are both miserable - we keep each other up, loose sleep, and more often than not one of us would end up on the couch. One night my wife just went to bed in the guest room and ever since then she's been sleeping in the guest room. When we have guests over and need the bed we'll sleep together.

Not getting married for another 11 months but been with my Fiancee for 12 years, lived together for 5 (we started dating in high school) and we sleep in the same bed every night and will continue to do so after we get married. Not sure why anyone would want to sleep apart from their partner.

Ross once the ring goes on the finger and the vows are said...thats when the stopwatch starts...before that there is still an out..lol

I prefer to sleep in bed with my wife, however sometimes she goes and sleeps in our oldest sons bed, he is 2.5 years old. I have to confess even though we all have king sized beds, even my son, it feels good to sleep in a bed by yourself..lol

i know one couple who does this. they just don't get a good sleep otherwise. i personally think it would put some distance in the relationship but who knows. different things work for different people. been sleeping in the same bed as my girl for almost 8 years now, no problems.

I guess it's just different strokes for different folks. Been married 6 years in June and I HATE when I'm not snuggled up with my wife. We pretty much have to be touching at night.

I sleep in the same bed with my Fiancee every night, but she likes to always be touching and i like to be separate when trying to get to sleep. So i give her a little time, then she gets rolled over!

We have a huge bed because I like lots of space, but most of the time my wife and I are snuggled up and cuddling.

Like some others here, I do not like sleeping alone.

My wife and I normally drift off holding hands or with my arm around her or something. Then just as we fall asleep we often roll over.

Then again, we have a closer relationship than other couples we know. We don't spends much time looking at each other, but rather looking in the same direction together. Rather than me looking at what I want from her, we look at what we want for us. So it makes sense that we sleep together.

If I had the money to build 8 houses, I'd have a harem, not a wife -- so the issue of sleeping in a separate bedroom wouldn't exist.

I am a very, very light sleeper. The slightest noise and I'm awake. Then it's impossible to go back to sleep unless I read for a while. I'm also very cranky the next day if I don't get at least 7 hours of sleep. Separate bedrooms is a must. When starting a new relationship I try but usually end up on the couch the first few nights until I explain things then she sleeps in the guest room.

No, he built one house with his own money, lived in it while building house #2, sold the first one for a profit, then finished house #2, lived in it, started #3, etc.

The 8th one, now some 15 years after the first one, is just now finished and they're living in it. And it has two master suites, one for him, one for her.

He says this is his last house.

And the sleeping apart thing seems to have worked for them, they've been married for nearly 30 years.

I've been with the same woman 15 years (married for 8). Just recently in the last year she started snoring really bad where she was waking me continuously throughout the night.

I often "freak out" during the middle of the night and scare her half to death ... that being said, sleeping in separate bedrooms has worked out for both of us. We DO seem to have more sex now and obviously are more rested and productive.

sounds like you both could have health issues that might need to be addressed rather than just sleeping in seperate rooms.

I just found it rather surprising that upwards of 60% of new homes will be built with two master bedrooms. I knew some people did it, slept apart while married or living together, but I would have sworn before that article that those people are in the vast minority, not the majority.

Kind of floored me actually.
