Pls. critique my KW Research Technique

This is a long post but please skim and let me know if I am doing anything wrong, don't want to get too many hours invested if I am doing it wrong.

So now that I have around 200 domains and am therefore paying roughly 2000 a year in reg fees I realize I need to start generating some income.

I never did the hard work of doing any KW research so I need to start that since it is a bottleneck to getting backlinks (otherwise I don't know what anchor text I want) I cant even do Linkspun without doing KW research.

Over the weekend I started and realized I had no idea how to do keyword research, despite having read about it quite a bit. Since I have pretty much no traffic and nothing to lose really, I decided doing the wrong thing would be better than doing nothing. Here is what I am doing, let me know if I should be doing something else.

I got a domain called mygfstits.com I am assuming I want to rank for "my gfs tits", and/or anything related to GFs and tits. The niche is obviously self shot amateurs with big titties.

    1) I get into google adwords tool and put in "my gfs tits" check to make sure the location is set to all and the language to English, check "include adult ideas" in the advanced options, and hit search.

    2) I look for the highest volume searches that seem to match my domain name and also don't conflict with the niche. I pick 3.

    my gfs
    girlfriends tits
    my gf tits

    3) Open Market Samurai, create a project or add to an existing one with a tab for each of my 3 keywords and check the competition.

"my gfs" looks like it will be difficult to rank, but not impossible, assuming the SEO data is more or less correct. Also assuming as with everything that the basic rules haven't completely changed since last week.

I'm no expert but "girlfriends tits" looks a little harder

"My gf tits" seems the easiest of the three, because there seems to be more spots in the top 10 that have stats I can beat, plus its a pretty close match to my domain name, so I will probably want to focus on that keyword and use the other two as alternate anchor texts to keep from looking too spammy with my linktrades.

So now I have a primary and two secondary keywords for my domain and can keep them in mind when I add content, categories, backlinks etc.

    Thoughts?

OK, I'm interested... Is the lack of response to a legit biz thread like this down to...?

        A) No one CAN Help?

        B) No one WILL help?

I could be wrong, but in 2012 a matching domain wont make much of a difference when you compete against tubes with 100s of thousand backlinks. You'll need to have a great deal of backlinks on these starting domains, so make sure the potential traffic volume will justify your effort.

I've done a small tutorial on KW research for adult

                http://www.adultking.co.uk/market-sa...les-for-adult/

I would always start off with a minimum two word starting keyword.

Then I would filter through relevant keywords until I come up with around 20 which have good traffic but low competition.

I wouldn't touch the SEO Competition module until I had done that.

Checking your competition is pointless until you add content to the sites targeting the keywords you research, because you don't know how much better those sites could do with keyword targeting.

but with googles new "over optimization" update rolling out right now will building a shit ton of backlinks even get you your rank?

Isnt it more focused on more natural organic social back links?

FWIW, given the competition for "my gfs", I reckon with good keyword research it would be possible to rank in the top 10 fairly quickly. None of the sites shown.

When checking competition always click the little down arrow between the URL and the competition data, because as it appears in your screenshot there is no on page SEO for that term on any of those sites. You're not reading those competition results correctly.

I'll put together a tutorial on using the competition module properly over the weekend if anyone's interested.

This thread is worthless until Paul tells us how he would do it.

How hard is it to rank for "$3000 magazines" in 2012?

OK so here's a question, if I get 20 or more keywords, what do I do with them? Alternate between all of them for anchor text, or make a post optimized for each? Both? Something else entirely?

With your blog, you should target related keywords in various blog posts. Don't just do it in one post but in many.

Try and stick to one or two keywords per blog post but don't get too hung up on things like keyword density and don't over use the keywords in a way that is unnatural.

Don't use keywords in anchor text in a way which is unnatural. In fact, there may not be much benefit in using them too much in anchor text. It's hard to say but a good rule of thumb is to link as if none of the links are earning you money, just link the way you would if you were conveying a message on a personal blog.

The idea with keywords, since Google said it doesn't want people to over optimize, is to use them as a way Google can work out what your site is about.

There are no silver bullet strategies, anyone who claims to have one is full of it. However what we do know is that surfers type keywords into search engines to search for relevant subject matter, so if you're targeting keywords which are relevant to your content and have the added benefit of attracting a good number of searches then you are well on your way.

Awesome, great. BTW your article about market samurai is very helpful, I've had it bookmarked for some time now.

One thing I kind of get lost on though is that I can hardly ever find any keywords at all for my blogs that will make it through the adult golden rules filter, unless they are very broad terms that I would have to compete with Pornhub and similar sites on.

For example, the EXGF niche seems to be fairly low volume in general, it seems besides a couple obviousl keywords that mostly webmasters are interested in that term whereas surfers just call it amateur. So making a site that is a sub-niche of exgf like ebony exgfs or big titty exgfs is even smaller, monthly searches are tiny.

What do you do in that case?

Glad you like it, I will add a tutorial on Competition analysis over the weekend.

This is where imagination and practice come in. There are no shortage of great keywords. As the Noble Samurai training videos point out, sifting for them is like panning for gold. You start out with a whole heap of words, refine that list again and again until you have a collection of keywords which meet the criteria of getting traffic and as low competition as possible. It's not always easy depending upon the niche, but it's possible.

For example, the EXGF niche seems to be fairly low volume in general, it seems besides a couple obviousl keywords that mostly webmasters are interested in that term whereas surfers just call it amateur. This is why you target a collection of keywords. You see you're less likely to rank against the tubes for high competition terms, but you will for lower competition terms. If you can rank number one or two for several lower volume search terms because the competition is lower then as long as your content is relevant to the search you're set.

Well if you get the majority of them by being number one then it was worth the 15 minutes to make a blog post.

I'll add that my Adult Golden Rules filter for Market Samurai can be adjusted, it's not a hard and fast filter. I recommend the filter for people learning the process of keyword research because it will keep them out of trouble and ensure as they learn the process of keyword research that they wont be chasing down keywords they have no hope of ranking for.

I'd suggest sticking with the filter as you learn. However once you are confident about the process you can adjust it. There's nothing wrong with chasing higher competition terms. That said you will have more luck with higher competition terms after you've been successful with lower competition terms.

As with everything, it's all a case of working out what works for you.
