:2cents Canadian hunter mistakes woman for animal and shoots her

story

CBC News Posted: Nov 12, 2011 1:29 PM NT Last Updated: Nov 13, 2011 2:03 PM NT
A woman from Little Burnt Bay, a community on the northeast coast of Newfoundland, is recovering in hospital after being accidentally shot early Friday afternoon.

The RCMP said the 68-year-old woman was on a family outing on Philpott's Road when she was shot in the shoulder.

A 35-year-old man from Lewisporte, who was hunting in the area, was arrested near the scene and charges are pending. Police said the hunter thought he was shooting in the direction of wildlife.

The woman was taken to the Central Regional Health Centre in Grand Falls-Windsor for treatment.

Newfies need to stick with fishing.

Hunting on land doesn't appear to be their forte.

Although no country can compare to America when it come to gun ownership and gun crimes - you might be surprised how many Canadians are incredibly well-armed. And insane. And angry. Usually a Canadian would rather beat a person with the butt end of a rifle (more satisfying) than shoot them, but times are changing.

I'm willing to guess that about 100% of Canadians who are not pussy liberals living in big cities are armed to the teeth. You guys get the Toronto/Vancouver/Montreal version of Canadians. Go outside those cities and you'll find people (like my uncle) driving around town with four shotguns mounted in a gunrack in the back window of their pickup trucks. There is NEVER a problem there.

My family is from Campbellford. The 3,000 people that live in that town probably have more firepower at their disposal than everyone in Toronto combined - outside the police and gang members.

Unfortunately, these good people are outnumbered 100 to 1 by limp-wristed liberal pussies. There are apartment buildings in Toronto that have more voting influence than entire towns. And that is sad...

I'm not sure which Canada garce is from, but any houses I've been in up north do have guns, but we're talking standard rifles for shooting animals. The only people who have something like an assault rifle are gun hobbyists. Full auto is illegal here too.

I grew up in Texas, and I have to say that I have not seen a truck with a gun rack in it since probably the early 80's. I'm not sure if anyone even makes gun racks for trucks anymore, like the ones that were popular in the 70's with the rifles or shotguns displayed in the back window.

That's not hunting, that's shooting around hoping to kill an animal. Stupid.

There's a big difference between owning a gun because you need one, and owning one because "you can".

You do realize that your standard deer hunting rifle is FAR more powerful and does much more damage than an "assault rifle" right? "Assault rifles" are picked by the military because they have smaller, lighter rounds and it's easier to carry more of them for the average soldier. The other difference is that instead of 4 to 6 round mags for hunting rifles, they have 20 to 30 round mags, but there is no comparison to what a deer round in the 30-06 caliber will do to a person compared to a much smaller .223, or .556 military round.

Full auto in the US is only allowed with a class three permit. That is issued after a 6 month background investigation by the Feds, and THEN it is only issued for a single specific, individual weapon. Semi-Auto is just as legal in Canada as it is in the US.

Just sayin'.

Crime? I don't see any crime in this story. Sounds more like 'accident' to me, possibly born out of stupidity, but accendent none the less.

I have an uncle like that. Owns about 80 guns, lives out in the wilds of NW Ontario on a lake, 10 miles from the nearest shit-hole town. None of his guns or ammo are stored properly, as in to code, but you can sure as shit bet no one comes around his place with intent to fuck him over. And he's a solid guy, sensible as hell, been hunting and fishing all his life and is actually to this day one of the top accredited gunsmiths in all of Canada.

I bet your uncle and my uncle would get along like gangbusters garce.

We have to go through a lot more bullshit just to be able to purchase a gun though. Plus all our non restricted guns are limited to 5 shells if you actually want to hunt with it, except for 22s. At least we finally got rid of our stupid gun registry.

Almost forgot, at least in my part of ontario, you can't even use a regular rifle to hunt deer. You have to use a muzzleloader black powder gun. Absolutely ridiculous.
