It is possible to transfer a expired domain? (Webair is at it again)

I had a domain expire yesterday, is it possible to transfer it to a new registrar without paying renewal fees at my old registrar?

    Found this at Godaddy:
Yes. You can transfer an expired domain name if it is still in the registrar's renewal grace period. Grace periods differ by registrar and domain name extension. However, once the status indicates that the domain name is in registry redemption, you can no longer transfer it.

When transferring a domain name during the renewal grace period, you have two choices:

You can renew your domain name, and then initiate the transfer with your new registrar.
You can get the authorization code (if required) for the expired domain name, and then initiate the transfer with your new registrar.

However, when it comes to Webair the answer is:
    ########## Begin Message ##########
    Hello,
Sorry to inform you that once the domain name is expired you are unable to transfer this domain name.
Please let me know if there is anything else that I can assist you with.
    Thanks,

    Found this at ICANN:
My domain name has just expired. Can my registrar require me to pay for a renewal before I can transfer to a new registrar?

No. Your new registrar of choice can initiate a transfer request on an expired domain name once they receive the required authorization from you. Expiration or nonrenewal of a domain name is not a valid reason for denial of a transfer request.

Note that if the registrar has already begun the deletion process on the domain name and its status shows it to be within a 30-day Redemption Grace Period, the name must be restored. by your current registrar before it can be transferred.

What are you talking about? We're talking about a expired domain here:

you can try. a few will let you do it despite saying it won't work. however be careful with webair. 5 days after expiry the domain goes into redemption and they'll want 65 dollars to renew it.
you don't know you're wearing a leash if you sit by the peg all day..

GoDaddy allows the transfers of .com and .net domains within 2 weeks of the expiration date.

                  It had expired.

You let it expire, not the registrar.

Just renew with webair and then transfer it wherever you want afterwards.....

Not exactly rocket science is it?

You're wrong. You can transfer a expired domain a couple of days(weeks?) after it have expired. Webair have replied that they were wrong and the transfer is now in MOTION. Not exactly rocket science is it?

In the future, if you dont have any idea, please dont open your cunt-mouth again.

cunt-mouth? seriously? Are you 12 years old?

What I said is correct. Only an idiot risks losing a domain with any value by not renewing it BEFORE it expires. You got lucky here and got a good result, well done. You should probably thank Webair, because not all other registrars would have been so accommodating regardless of what ICANN rules "state". I wonder what would have happened had it have been a premium domain that people had back ordered.....?

Oh and one more thing. If you are so fucking smart, why did you not transfer the domain out more than two weeks ago when you warned everybody not to register domains with webair? (which most people already knew btw)

Not that registering domains with your host was a good idea in the first place.

You can transfer a domain out of Godaddy up to 2 weeks after expiration.

It IS possible to transfer expired domains.

My experience with Namecheap is that they will at least allow you to go over the 27 day grace period beyond the expiry date before they apply the redemption late $200 fee per domain. At least they'll allow you to go 30 to 32 days without penalty - so far.

The rule here is...... remember to renew within 27 days of expiration.

I'm not 12, I just wanted to sound cool and I was successful in doing that.
The domain is not worth much, I only wanted to renew it because I will use it to trade links with people. It wouldn't have mattered if I had lost it.
All domains that are important to me is set to auto-renew and I always keep an eye on them so the autorenew will work.

So here we are, a couple of days after I've tried to transfer the domain I get a email that webair have deleted the domain and that I cant renew it.

Internetbs.net (my new registrar) sends me this:

The current Registrar (WEBAIR) for ******.com has rejected the domain transfer.

Please contact the current Registrar to find out the reason and start a new transfer.

We have credited your pre-paid account with the amount corresponding to the current transaction. You can use the balance available in your pre-paid account to re-initiate the transaction.
                                  Thank you again Webair!

that sucks. now webair will want 60 bucks to reactivate it. i was lucky. i started the transfer the day before the domain expired but with shitty webair domain services only 5 days after expiry the domain went into redemption, i got an email from webair saying the domain has been deleted but the next day the domain was at moniker, where i was trying to transfer it to.

I did change host a few weeks ago when I needed a host in Amsterdam but I couldn't stand the controlpanel Plesk at the new host, Webair did still have my server up and could transfer all my stuff to a datacenter in Amsterdam so it was very easy to go back since most of my sites still was up to date. I just had to change the nameservers.

They've actually been OK when it comes to the server, but I wont use them to register domains again.

I tried to transfer it the same day or the day after it expired but I guess Webair didn't want to transfer it.

But it's no big loss so it doesn't really matter to me, I just think Webair did handle all this very shitty.

Webair deletes expired domains after 5 days?

That's beyond crappy service, approaching thievery!

And while on this topic, does Webair really send the delete command that quickly?

Or does Webair make it appear the domain is in redemption when it's really still in the registry auto-renew period? If so that really is thievery!
