WTF Is Craigslist full of cheapskates or poor people?

put an ad for a brand new Galaxy S II. Box hasn't even been opened. First email comes 15 minutes later... $200!

Funny thing is even when I say no lowball offers I've had people offer $150!

Cell phones are a dime a dozen. Ebay it if you want to sell it. Still might only get around 50-75% of cost new.

they're in the $500s on Ebay, or were recently when i looked, especially still sealed and unused like mine. But the horror stories ebay buyers not paying for phones or charging back has kept me from listing mine. I've already dealt with Paypal several times and it's not an experience I want to repeat

what is the harm in them making an email offer, takes 2 seconds to read it, and if you don't like their offer, ignore it

you never know, some sellers might not get any offers at all and need cash quickly and will take an offer like that

putting "no lowball offers" usually scares away legit offers too, btw

and the S2 has been out for a long time, I would expect it to get hard to sell pretty soon

It is full of both. Read their forums where people cry about being flagged.

They essentially will flag your ad because they feel the price is too high. Same as they will flag your hiring ad if they feel you are not paying enough, or that your ad is worded too mean. Those "help forums" will give you some level of insight in regards to what you are dealing with.

Years ago I had a bunch of the old school big ass CRT monitors. I put them up on Craig's List thinking it would be better to have some one pay me something for them instead of having to haul them out to the dump. Sure enough some kid offed me $10 each for them. A lot better than me taking the time to haul them to the dump.

Take a look at the computer gigs. Around here most people are looking for free webdesign and full websites so "you can put it on your portfolio." I saw one guy trying to hire a "seo expert" for $15/hr. I just think the whole word is full of cheapskates.

I've sold a ton of stuff on CL. I almost always put the price I wanted for it and occasionally got lowball offers, but pretty rarely.

Do not ask for offers, ask for actual price (I mean the price from people, not store price). If you see those going on ebay for 500 than ask for 500 in the ad. And maybe tell that they can negotiate a LITTLE bit.
These fools probably were just trying their luck, hoping that you have no idea of the actual value.

I always put lowball offers on craigslist ads.
Last time I nearly got a macbook pro including apple care for 750 (late 2011 model).. they sold it last minute and ended up buying a new one instead..

I would never pay more than 25% of the new value and for electronics it should be max 1 year old, 3-6 months if its a computer.

What model Nook Tablet and how much do you want for it. I now need a third one for my youngest, who has now taken to stealing her older sister and brother's.

Craigslist is just about worthless these days. I recently sent out six inquiries for nearby house rentals, various prices. Five of them were Nigerian scams, where they've found an empty house for sale or rent on a real estate site, steal the pictures, and hope you'll send them a deposit.

On the sixth the guy tried to say the utility room in a TINY duplex house was a third bedroom, so he could ask $200/mo more. The room was barely bigger than a walk-in closet. Scammers everywhere.

Obviously OP is not trying to get store price. If some electronic device in store cost 600$ then its pretty normal to expect at least 500$ from it on CL (especially if you have all the cheques that means its not stolen). And its pretty dumb to offer 200$ for such an item.

I sold my exes engagement ring on Craigslist for a price I was happy with. Be realistic. You're not a retail store.

Craiglist is a waste of time if your looking to sell something IMHO.

Ebay has a lot of fees these days but I think you'll get a lot more $ for your phone that way. If the phone is going to for an ultra cheap price, might as well keep it around as a backup.

I sell regularly, and my favorite answer to those people is: "I wish it was still available, so i could refuse selling it to you."

People don't read half the ad, write in poor language. I actually write that I will charge an extra for bad spelling. I like to choose my buyers, because let's face it, I'm not going to deal with morons, just to get rid of something.

Everytime i upgrade phones I list my old ones on Ebay and have never had a problem.

Just sold my heavily used MyTouch for $160 bucks.

why would anyone want to buy this phone off you ? if it is new and in the box and you want them to buy at retail price? why would anyone in their right mind buy it off craigslist?

If I am going to pay full price for it , might as well head to the mall and just buy there so I know I am not getting ripped off ... if you want to sell it online you have to make it cheap , that way people have an incentive to buy off you instead of normal retail at the mall

One of my friends offers low prices late night on CL and people take it. He said people who are selling brand new stuff on CL most of the time steal it from stores and fence it on CL for drug money.

If you have an upgrade on your account couldn't you have gotten the phone for $200 or less? I think I paid like $150 for my Galaxy S2 straight out of the AT&T store.

It's like this: people on Craigslist want the world and everything in it, and they want it for next to nothing.

However, if you price it at next to nothing, you'll get flagged to death, because it's too good to be true.

There are lots fucking morons out there who see or hear something about Internet scammers on TV or YouTube, then go on Craigslist thinking that they're the Sherlock Homes of the Internet world. The fact is that they don't know what the fuck they're doing, and for the most part are just flagging legit ads while thinking that they're so fucking smart by making it harder and more frustrating for legit sellers trying to get rid of an old sofa or laptop. The funniest thing is that these type of morons are EXACTLY the same ones that tend fall for genuine scams.

Not sure about now but years ago Craigslist had quality buyers with cash. The best place to sell cars/etc.

Lots of idiots on Craigslist offering small fractions of what you are asking, not even writing in full sentences just sending a dollar amount ... just ignore them and eventually you will sell it for what you want, EVERYTHING sells eventually, even ugly old light fixtures and old monitors, even if it takes a few months it will sell.

Craigslist is what you make of it, and possibly where you are located. I've sold tons of stuff on CL, its not bad as long as you know how to play the game. Plus its free so complaining about it is like complaining about Facebook Timeline.

I do very well with CL.. Last week I picked up the following for FREE:

Briggs And Stratton Lawnmower - Replaced Sparkplug, works like a champ (Worth about $100)
Troy Bilt Rear Tine Tiller - Replaced Magneto and Belts (total cost of $80 repairs)(Worth about $500 used)

So I saved myself $600 .. and can sell it at a later date..

Many many other sales, buys, trades, and freebies on CL I've done.. The place can be a fucking gold mine if you do it right..
