Oh btw can i use any pre amp on the Mac as well? There is no difference between a Mac and PC pre amp?

You should try it before you knock it, I used to think the same. It's incredibly easy to setup and very handy switching between operating systems by simply pressing control+tab

Well, the short answer is 'probably'. But it would be safer to get one with certified osx drivers.

I use the Edirol US-25 USB sound card, which has phantom power for my sm-58 too. No dedicated pre-amp. Sounds great to me.
