If you have a Mark II there's really no reason to upgrade, but if you're shooting anything else, now's the time to take the jump.

Not to add more fuel to the nikon/canon fire, but selling all my lenses and nikon bodies in favor of canon was the best thing I ever did. Nikon's in camera color handling is a fucking nightmare.

How is the video footage? We just picked up a 7D and are excited to start using it. Some of the footage I've seen recently from a friend is just incredible.

I shoot with a 7D and love it. Have fun!:thumbsup

Yeah I'll take some at a reception this weekend, see how far I can push it

dallasnovelty 03-26-2012 12:17 PM

I think my next camera will be a Canon 60D since it has the flipout vari-angle screen I have to have.

Canon found a way to put more photo diodes within one pixel so the image will have far superior dynamic and resolution.

dynamic range is the word you are looking for.
if truly it packs more dynamic range (the amount of f stops from black to overexposed;
black and white film has the highest range, color film second, color dias (slides) is next and only then comes digital.. as having the worst dynamic range) well if then it is quite revolutionary and absolute worth while to take a serious second look at.

Aaron,

I have always been a Nikon shooter and I have a ton of great Nikon glass. I switched to THe 5DMKIIs when I needed to shoot video at 800 ASA which the last series Nikons were unable to do. The new D800 and the MKIII seem fairly close spec wise (and can do video at 3200 ASA no problem) but I am eager to switch back to my Nikon lenses and Nikon bodies which I prefer ergonomically.

Yes that was just a typo on my part. I am fully aware of all things dynamic range.
That is what most of these shooters in here do not understand.

Nikon produced a Camera (D800) with a bigger image size, but not packing in more/smaller photo diodes within one pixel. Bigger image size does not mean more detail or IQ.

The Canon 5D Mk III contains far more photo diodes within one pixel than the Nikon D800 has.

It looks lovely.

I have heard about this camera a half dozen times now from different people.

actually not true as they have not yet tested the mark III...

Even if its sensor results are exceptional, we are looking forward to measure the best Nikon lenses on it, but also to be able to compare it with the new 5D Mark III !"

the d800 does beat the mark II by a mile tho.

After playing around with the Nikon D4, D800 and D800e at the WPPI show, I decided to pre-order the Nikon D4.

candyflip 03-27-2012 12:13 PM

Looking forward to seeing what they have up their sleeves for competition to Sony's FS100, at NAB.

There's a HUGE space between with 5D Mark III and the CS300 for film and video folks.
