				Trouble With Computer Please Help

Need a little techie help here guys ...

Yesterday i tried adding up another 256mb DDR to my current 256mb DDR memory to my box ... but I inserted it the wrong way ... so the memory stick smoked ... so i removed it and reattached it the correct way ... it worked, i did have 512mb ram but here comes the problem ... my video card looked fucked up ... windows xp says "could not start hardware (code 10)" ... i tried removing and reinstalling the vid card but still no luck ... so i tried the vid card with my other computer ... its working without problems ... now, is it a possibility that my board got fucked up because of the memory problem i had ? i've got another question ... the memory stick which has smoked is still working ... how can that be? need explanations or any help ... thanks

I'd say the MB is done for. It doesn't take much to fry one and putting a stick in backwards, would do it.

Are you sure the MB wasn't the one smoking and not the mem stick? |

Just go buy a new motherboard and save yourself the aggravation. All it takes it a small short like that and it will never be the same, if work at all.

I would think motherboard aslso. They are easier to change out than you would think. If you have a digital camera take some pics before you dismantle it, that may be able to help you remember where all the wires go.

Hmm yeah I wouldn't use that motherboard or ram for a server or anything mission critical. |

How did you manage to put the stick into the mem bank backwards?

Is there not a slot in the stick that matches a partition in the bank to prevent such from happening? |

How the hell you could put a RAM stick wrong?

i mean the slots on the stick can only go one way maybe upgrading a PC hardware is not your thing.. |
