Kuta is a shithole like Pattaya not the whole of Bali.

DWB I got to the rice terraces, went up a few mountains and seen a fire show. The thing that pissed me off the most was the terrible roads and traffic.

That and the place was way more expensive than anywhere in Thailand.

For one, I've never met any locals that do any kind of drugs, besides those that work in bungalows and serve sandwiches... and young Kuta crowd. Local will give you free mushrooms if you ask nicely or tip them well. The only place where I saw locals do shrooms or smoke was Gili Island. I've never heard of any porn ring getting busted (probably because there really isn't any) but had a friend of mine take a trip to local police station for taking nude pictures of his model girlfriend on remote beach.
